  1. Canada produces one third of the world's supply of potash and is the world leader by a huge margin.
  2. Has there been any word on whether extra innings exist again? One of the biggest rule changes in the history of the sport has gotten little press.
  3. Call me cynical, but I think harming the long term future of the game in order to make higher profits in the present and that they know it.
  4. NBC has also announced a streaming deal for Monday and Wednesday night baseball. MLBTR estimates that around 100 games will not be televised in the upcoming season. This may be the end of baseball fandom for me if it continues. I am not paying for 9 streaming services to be able to watch a single product. MLB is going to lose hundreds of thousands of fans to other sports that make their content accessible.
  5. If the games are selected in advance then I agree, but I hope we don't go into the final weekend tied with the Yankees or something and they just pull the games from Sportsnet.
  6. That's correct.
  7. The only thing worse than not having baseball is having baseball and not being allowed to watch it. This is such a slap in the face to baseball fans that have already been s*** on. Hopefully the Blue Jays are ignored like usual.
  8. That's a strange stance for a Tigers team that is pretty unaffected by luxury tax, much like the Blue Jays.
  9. I'm very happy that it's 12 teams. Good on the players for sacrificing money to make baseball better.
  10. There couldn't be a more appropriate organisation to sign and develop a person like that. It's right in line with their entire history.
  11. Let's watch Spanky and ConnorP go at it in an octagon. That might be better than baseball.
  12. You just saw it in the NBA where playoff teams actually sold off assets. It will happen in MLB too with 14 teams.
  13. It's awfully risky to sign Freeman and commit to Vlad at for what I would say is a minimum of 3-4 seasons at third base, without seeing how good his defense is.
  14. Manfred is dead set on implementing a pitch clock, even though it was not effective in AAA and the players and fans are both against it. There are better ways to improve the flow of the game, to be sure, starting with these 12 minute long reviews.
  15. I manage a small group of union employees and don't find it to be that much of a problem. There have been productivity issues at times, but if you address and document them right from the start then you have justification for releasing the employee if that becomes necessary. That may not be the case in all unions, but I find they are good for both sides.
  16. The Freeman talk has to mean that we are at least giving some consideration to Vlad at 3rd. I really didn't think they would do that even though he's in better shape.
  17. If we're set on grabbing a lefty bat then one option would be to sign Michael Conforto and trade one of our existing corner outfielders. Playing Biggio full time at 2B again will help the lineup balance a great deal as well. If we're looking for a left handed batter at 3B then we are probably out of luck. It's best to grab a guy like Chapman and fit in another bat elsewhere in my view. Maybe you get Conforto and Chapman and trade Gurriel in a package for a younger pitcher, while saving our young prospects and keeping payroll reasonable.
  18. I don't think he's an answer for any time. I wouldn't give him more than a minor league deal.
  19. Matt Chapman is the answer
  20. Has anyone read a convincing explanation as to why the owners are so unified in favour of revenue sharing?
  21. Yeah that's what I was going with. We're kind of at a baseline average, but a top 10 guy and another top 40 (?) In Martinez puts us squarely above average in that regard. Then it seems that the consensus is that the depth of our system is the true strength, with a lot of interesting very young players. For those reasons, any ranking below 15 isn't really justified. Anything in the 10-15 range is quite reasonable.
  22. We really should be squarely in the 10-15 range. It's pretty ridiculous to say that the talent in this farm system is below average. Having 3 consensus top 100 players, one of them top 10 is already above average, not to mention our biggest strength, which is a great deal of depth outside of that range. That being said, top 5 is quite a stretch.
  23. I think he would take it if he genuinely likes it here in Canada.
  24. https://theathletic.com/news/scott-boras-says-he-has-a-plan-to-fix-minor-league-baseballs-wage-issue/jt33qgvhnEoM/ Scott Boras with some positive ideas.
  25. This isn't exactly a union issue, but we have already gone above and beyond other teams in compensating minor league players. I don't think something like an increase to minimum salary is going to be the hill that Edward Rogers dies on.
