  1. And gave up an equally good stopgap SS in Urshela.
  2. I thought the same, but Jon Heyman reports that they are still trying to sign an unvaccinated Anthony Rizzo. I wonder how much teams are letting vaccination status inform their decisions, if at all.
  3. It seems that he got tired of waiting for the Dodgers to sign Freeman.
  4. This trade brings up a lot of questions for me. The Twins don't even want Sanchez according to sources. Did the Yankees tender him, find no takers, and dump his salary? Who catches for the Yankees now? Giving up your starter at this juncture is puzzling to say the least. I have to believe that IKF and Urshela have similar value. We believed that Donaldson had negative trade value, but that clearly isn't the case. It appears to be pretty neutral to me. Any different takes?
  5. I don't know if this makes them that much better, but I hate the idea of JD playing for the Yankees.
  6. Alex Cora is a stupid cheater and I don't like him. I hope he doesn't get to travel here. There is no other reason.
  7. Kris Bryant has the shot. That's about the only Jays target I could find any information for.
  8. It sounds like Buck Martinez got the jab. I never thought about non players, but I'd be surprised if some TV guys didn't have the jab. The same goes for managers. Joe Girardi seemed a bit elusive when asked and Alex Cora, being the biggest piece of s*** scumbag in the league, is another likely candidate.
  9. Awards aside, Gausman had 4.8 WAR and Ray had 3.9. I think Ray/Matz to Gausman/Kikuchi is pretty much a wash projection wise. I'm optimistic that Springer and Berrios will cover some of the production lost when Semien left. There are still additions to be made as well. We'll have to see what the next couple of weeks bring before making any firm predictions.
  10. Our pythagorean record was 99-63 last season so a break even would be just fine.
  11. That's a pretty reasonable price for Gray. We must really like Kikuchi to not be in on that.
  12. So do I. That's a very large guarantee for a guy who probably should have been available on a minor league deal.
  13. Time to pivot to Chapman.
  14. I'm unconvinced that he was the answer to our problems in that regard, especially for 17 million. Even with the Dodgers he seemed to have a knack for unraveling in the biggest situations. That's why they mostly used him in mop up work throughout his tenure.
  15. Chapman at a reasonable price would be a nice cherry on top of the offseason. Sure it would be nice to move Grichuk, but covering all of our needs effectively without giving up a massive prospect haul would be a big success.
  16. Did you see Gas Can Kelly pitch when he was in this division? I'm happy that we get to face him more often.
  17. You must remember these:
  18. Barry Tallet was one of the all time greats.
  19. Winiwalt and Mac33 were around for a long time.
  20. I updated the list. It certainly won't hurt to have him unavailable in Toronto.
  21. I really like this. We were looking for a durable left handed pitcher at a decent price point and we got it. Kikuchi is projected at 2 WAR (6mil/WAR) and I think that Pete Walker has an awful lot of talent to work with. I have more confidence that Kikuchi will provide value than I do with Steven Matz on a similar contract. Pearson and Stripling will get their starts. That's hardly even a discussion worth having, as there will be injuries and probably a modified 6 man rotation as early as April to accommodate Ryu and others affected by a shortened spring training. Kikuchi is taking away starts from guys like Hatch and Francis, not from Pearson and Stripling. I think people are underestimating how much pitching depth will be needed this year and overestimating how much depth we have. If Kikuchi comes in and does his regular thing that that will be huge for us. We aren't paying for any upside. It was hugely important to grab another pitcher one way or another. It was probably the team's top priority.
  22. I think your last sentence answers your question. They wouldn't make it easy for an unvaccinated Canadian to play here, not that there are many or any available.
  23. I don't mind the trade for Garver in terms of value, but the Rangers' moves are not making sense to me yet. Their pitching staff is really, really bad. They don't have a 3B now and the outfield isn't great either. Those seem like issues that will take a couple of years to address rather than a couple of months. By that time they may have a couple of rather undesirable big contracts and Garver will be gone.
  24. Well obviously we can't sign or trade for anyone who isn't vaccinated. That's 12% of players according to Shi Davidi, so a pretty significant amount. I wouldn't expect the government to drop this mandate anytime soon, given the tremendous amount of political capital they used to fight against truckers.
