    The first and last pitches of Vlad's at-bat were way off of the plate. I don't recall ever seeing the umpiring quite this bad.

    Handing us the first 2 games on a silver platter in an effort to get a 3 inning start from Garrett Whitlock seems like a poor management decision.

    Thornton getting pop flys and Wacha giving up consecutive 100mph line drives. You won't find a much better example of BABIP luck.

    We could really use a guy like Greg Bird to DH instead of having Heineman start.

    There's a good chance they win the first 2 games if they use Garrett Whitlock in both. That's probably the case if Houck is available.

    I think the extra pitchers and the flexibility to play matchups has had the biggest impact on hitting. It used to be a mystery why Jose Bautista would crush Darren O'Day and hit like a pitcher against Jered Weaver, but the teams know this stuff now. They have more flexibility to mix and match to exploit a hitter's weaknesses than ever before.

    I think Grichuk saw the ball and slowed up when Blackmon seemed to be settled under it. He must have lost it in the lights or something

    You need to raise your expectations. He's on pace to go 38-0, well within striking distance of the 41 win record.

    We might get bit facing Whitlock in game 4, but if it means facing the likes of Matt Strahm and Tyler Danish in key situations for the first 3 games then I'll take it.

    It sounds like Garrett Whitlock will be starting on Thursday against Manoah, so we will get 4 games of a pretty bad and lefty heavy bullpen without their best reliever. There's going to be some good hittin.

    The combined OPS of Boston's bottom 3 hitters is about the same as Vladimir Guerrero Jr. by himself.
