    Of all of the inept displays of hitting we have seen this season, this game is by far the most disturbing. Where's the plan at the plate? Get the ball in the air or take your walks. Don't swing at breaking stuff out of the zone.

    Yes of course. That's why it's puzzling to see a harder hit ball in the same spot have a lower xBA. Maybe I'm just not remembering correctly and they were different.

    Lourdes crushes one up the middle and is an easy out. Chapman hits a soft liner in the same spot and gets a hit. I really think a shift ban will be good for baseball.

    Boston is the first team in a decade to get walked off by every division rival in a single month

    Triston Casas should be up this year and they have a promising future middle infield with Nick Yorke and Marcelo Mayer, but both are still at A ball and a few years from making an impact. As for pitching, there is no help on the horizon and they have one of the worst farm systems in the league in that regard. With Eovaldi hitting free agency, they're either going to have to spend some massive dollars on a few pitchers or trade from their stronger position player pool to get some much needed talent.

    I was just going by this year's stats so I meant JD Martinez, but I agree that Devers is a better hitter.

    My favourite part is that their 2 best hitters so far are both free agents, one of whom they spurned with a ridiculous contract offer.

    I haven't followed this story that closely and don't care all that much, but I'm hopeful that MLB will clarify what makes this incident 5-10 times worse than the others MLB has dealt with. There have been some pretty terrible crimes that have only resulted in double digit games lost as opposed to the ~400 we are seeing here. Is this what we can expect going forward for other players involved in domestic violence or was this a special case? If it's the former then I'm ok with that. If it's the latter then they have some explaining to do.
