  1. Sonny Gray is the kind of guy you move Lourdes for. Gurriel’s contract makes him such a valuable trade piece and I don’t trust that he’s a ~130 wRC+ bat in LF.
  2. If Danny Jansen is traded you need a player with years of control coming back. Throwing him away for a one year rental is a gross thought. Marquez, Darvish, Musgrove, Gray or someone like that. Jansen + Manoah is a pretty good package
  3. Yes, I think they should be. There is zero downside for either the player or the org. Very few will ultimately revitalize their careers, but if you are able to churn out one new decent reliever each year it would be worth it. I think the Reds will be interesting to watch over the next couple of years with Kyle Boddy as their pitching coordinator.
  4. Football/Basketball clearly dominate because they can provide an atmosphere that baseball can't. Faster pace, loud music, closed stadiums, lots of beer. This environment will drag the 18 year old freshman or the 24 year old super senior out because it's a part of the university experience. College baseball - nine innings, sit in your seat, no break in the action, it's probably cold or raining in like 50% of the country. Baseball isn't going to have a revolution and needs to embrace itself like Laika said.
  5. Most kids would and do ask for extra resources and help from their organizations. Most are dedicated to their career. Most wouldn’t let themselves show up to camp fifty pounds overweight. Vlad did whatever he wanted because he knew they were never going to send him down. He’s a competitor and it took him failing horribly to realize he needed to make a change.
  6. Realmuto would be my number one target and trade Danny Jansen. Get two birds stoned at once.
  7. I think the entire league would've liked to sign Morton at 1/15M.
  8. Can we please stop the discussion of a vaccine. It has been outlawed. Thanks.
  9. I guess I'm just echoing BTS, but I don't think they will operate the Jays in the same way they had to operate the Indians. The Jays have showed a willingness to spend when the time is right.
  10. Lindor Kelenic, Vaughn, Carlson
  11. CD, what kind of opportunities has Shapiro had to make an impact move at the deadline to bolster a playoff team? You're speculating that he won't. I'd be shocked if the Jays were leading the AL East in 2021 and he didn't make that sort of move.
  12. I imagine he'll be back in TB on a one year deal. Atlanta would be a good fit and definitely a more exciting team than the Rays.
  13. People aren't talking about Morton because he's expressed a desire to stay in or close to his home in Florida. There was thought that he may retire this year. He's not coming to Canada and he's definitely not playing in Buffalo.
  14. Congrats Boxy!!!
  15. Baseball does not have an advantage when it comes to number of scholarships. D1 baseball teams have less than 12 scholarships to hand out. Football is fully or nearly 1:1 scholarships per player and basketball isn't far behind that ratio. Why then would a black kid who understands that he needs a scholarship to go to university pursue baseball over football or basketball? This massive gap in scholarships likely leads to more black kids playing basketball or football in university, not because it isn't fun. Baseball will never have the demand of football or basketball at the national level, NCAA or professionally. The reality is D1 schools are reliant on football and basketball while baseball is closer to soccer in priority. An increase in scholarship allowance isn't going to just magically appear and without it baseball is never going to get kids to turn away from the NBA or the NFL.
  16. When is enough black people in baseball enough? Why is this seen as a problem in the MLB but not in other leagues? The MLB is consistently ~40% people of colour.
  17. Basically, yup.
  18. It's just a question to chew on.
  19. Why doesn't anyone ever mention the disproportionate representation of African Americans in the NBA and NFL when talking about diversity and inclusion in sports? What have the NFL and NBA done to grow the game within the white community? Maybe sports are more closely correlated with culture and not race.
  20. I know you would be happier if Justin Turner was charged with attempted manslaughter, but it's just not going to happen.
  21. Looks like they may have to replace their entire org.
  22. Seems relevant. Sorry to kill your buzz King and Jim.
  23. Most of those guys are complete dolts
  24. Rest In Peace
