Exactly. Why waste your time playing for $400 a month for five months when you can make 8k a week on the Eagles practice squad.

I agree Abom. Both the NFL and NBA disproportionately employ blacks over all other races yet nobody is arguing that we need more diversity in football or basketball. Maybe African American representation in baseball is lacking because the MLB does a horrendous job at marketing to youth and the NBA and NFL are the most recognizable brands in the NA sporting world. Travel ball is expensive and the guys who are two sport athletes almost always bypass the MLB for football or basketball because they can cash a check much quicker. Factor in that over 25% of the league is Latino and I'm having a hard time finding a minority issue.

When I say contention, I’m talking about playoff contention. We’ve recently seen teams open their windows a year earlier than they were supposed to. Toronto could be that team in 2021.

I’d probably try and extend Giles. The BP is a mess and in order to compete you need at least a couple guys like him. If the goal is to begin contention in 2021 just act in good faith and offer an extension. 2/16 or 3/21. Free agency will be a crapshoot so that might entice him to not test the market.

Financial reasons I’m sure. A lot cheaper to buy aluminum that’ll last all year vs wood. Baseball isn’t a revenue stream for most of them like football or basketball.
