  1. Don't even get me started on RBIs
  2. I'd have to watch the game to find out, something that you SABR guys seem to forget about. You want to eliminate the need to watch the games and know the players.
  3. Top 10 in batting average: Cabrera Trout Chris Johnson Cuddyer Molina Beltre Mauer Werth McCutchen Craig They are all the best hitters in the game. Not sure how you can say its useless.
  4. Now he just needs to have a decent bat and we're good.
  5. No its not. Its an excellent tool for evaluating offensive performance. Especially when used with players you are familiar with. If you have a power hitter with no speed hitting for a lower average than a fast slap-hitter you can tell the difference. Batting average is the most basic stat and the most important. It tells you how often the player got a hit. Most of the time the batter isn't trying to hit a double or a triple, they're just trying to make a solid swing on the ball and get on base. Batting average tells you how successful they are.
  6. Huh? You're saying I can't talk about minor leaguers because I've never gone and seen them? First of all thats wrong, second of all how many people on this board have gone and scouted all these guys? Where do you get your false sense of superiority from? It seems like you're always lurking just waiting to hop on board and call someone out when sometimes you don't even understand the argument.
  7. I look forward to hit. You explain to me why getting hits isn't the most important thing for the offense.
  8. That doesn't make it bad/useless/not important. That just means that some guys plugged average into some fancy equations and came up with new numbers. Getting hits is still the most important thing in the game. (For offense)
  9. You guys keep on talking and attacking, but I'm still here waiting for one of you to actually post something useful and tell me why you think Batting Average isn't an important stat.
  10. I'm still waiting....go ahead tell me why batting average is a bad stat. About the "hivemind", well maybe you can't see it because you're a part of it, but on this board any view/opinion that opposing using advanced stats is instantly shot down by everyone. Someone people don't even read the posts, they just hop on board once they see one of the well-known posters shoot someone down. A lot of the time its that immature one word response such as "ban" "lol" "no" "troll". There might be more casuals outside of this board, but this place is pretty bad if your not a SABR crazed stathead.
  11. You can't possibly argue batting average isn't a good stat.
  12. Oh ok I was worried it wasn't in your top 50.
  13. Am I off point in saying you guys don't care about avg?
  14. Oh yeah I forgot, you guys hate batting average even though its the most important stat.
  15. +1. It's tough to go against the hivemind, and no one will probably read this, but you should.
  16. The only time he had those low wRC+s was when he was promoted mid season. Then he made adjustments and the next year he improved. Why is this hard to understand.
  17. Try adding a player that succeeded
  18. All I see is that he struggled when he was promoted mid season, but then came back to the same level the following year. By that I would guess he would struggle in the MLB this year, but that hasn't happened yet
  19. I'm sure you could find someone who's the opposite of Thames too. How does Thames relate to Goins at all.
  20. Who cares
  21. Well he's been pretty consistent since he started full season ball except this year in AAA. Sure the MLB is way harder, but he can continue to get better.
  22. Goins' wRC+ through the years: 2009 A-: 114 2010 A: 122 2011 A+: 109 2012: AA: 105 2013: AAA: 90 2013: MLB: 107 Hmmm, one does not fit the others. (BTW league average for 2B: 90 wRC+)
  23. That's one down year. Any player has room to improve and get better. It's not about what he did, it's about what he will do, and that's up to him and his coaches
