  1. Why would I want the worst case scenario? I want Goins to succeed, unlike some people here.
  2. Yeah like I said I don't think AA and co. are out to get us. If Goins is the starting 2B next year there are two reasons I'm on with it that I posted earlier.
  3. Dude, read. I don't want that. That's worst case scenario
  4. Yeah, that's what we should be doing. AA is evaluating a player, not a situation.
  5. But Goins appears to be a great defender at a position that isn't all bat.
  6. Ok let's say the FO goes completely insane and overreacts and puts Goins at 2B to fail next year. Lets say he's completely replacement level, 0 WAR. That a 2-3 win upgrade over this year with no money spent. And that's worst case scenario.
  7. He doesn't need to be an average hitter to be a starter. If Goins is the starting 2B going into the season I'll be very surprised unless he shows the FO something special in the rest of the year. And in that case I think it's worth a shot.
  8. I don't. If Goins ends up being nothing more than McCoy 2.0 then that's fine. He's a solid backup that can play good D. If he can make some adjustments and work from a solid approach and become an average-below average hitter then he could be a solid 2B
  9. Our FO also saw something in Morrow, Bautista, EE... It goes both ways. (In before someone thinks I'm comparing Goins to one of them). Like I said many pages back Goins would be great for the mike mccoy role, with upside of an everyday starter.
  10. If he's the starting 2B next year I won't be too upset for two reasons. 1: that means the FO saw something in him to out him there. Even though you guys think AA is some maniac out to get you for using advanced stats, he's not. Goins=/Thames. 2: That means our money has been used in other positions, like C, LF and SP so having a 2B with good D and below avg bat isn't too big a deal
  11. I know. That's been written 10 times. We've been through this so many times, he's probably nothing. But you didn't respond to my post... This org is bad, but they're not out to get you and your Sabr pals.
  12. This is so ridiculous. You seriously don't want him to play well because you're afraid that will happen? I don't even know what to say. If this org does give him a shot next year then obviously they saw something in him that's promising. Just because Thames flopped doesn't mean we have to be afraid of the same exact thing happening every time. Insane...
  13. Aaron "Laugher" Laffey
  14. Even if that happens and if he sucks his good D will be an upgrade over what we got from 2B this year
  15. They don't believe he can get better because he's too old to have any room to grow. Which of course isn't always true.
  16. They're don't only differ, they want someone on the team to fail because they don't want a Thames 2.0 or something, like thats exactly what will happen if Goins plays well. Some straight up said they hope Goins fails horribly the rest of the year.
  17. I don't see how they relate. I haven't cared about the MLB team for a couple weeks now, but I've been checking the box scores and I'm glad to see Goins playing well.
  18. Don't bother telling these guys that as they can't seem to enjoy a player playing well without parading all their sabr stats to show he sucks.
  19. Maybe over a huge sample, but it's very close
  20. I just don't think you can put all of those into numbers accurately
  21. I haven't watched a game in a month so I don't know the answer, but I'm sure you can get a better idea about his approach by watching some ABs than looking at P/PA and swing %. Is he swinging at curves in the dirt? Or cutters just off the plate. Big difference. Who's throwing those pitches? What speed? What pitch was before that? What's the count? Who's on base?
  22. Or you could just watch and see for yourself if he has a good approach
  23. Once again you're trying to force the game into numbers. That says nothing about what kind of pitches he's swinging at and what he's letting go by and what count he's in when he's doing it.
  24. You're right BTS is wrong. If you watch the games, you see its not all luck, but not sustainable either.
  25. -I don't think they said Goins was a 6 win player. They said Goins would have given us 5-6 more wins than we got from -Izturis/Boni, who combined and at -2-3 WAR. -Gose should be our starting CF with Rasmus in left. -What's wrong with saying Goins has a 10% chance to be a starter? Is that so hard to believe? He plays good D so he only really needs to be a fringe average batter.
