  1. The saber metrics are confused
  2. I was lol'ing at the "with less speed, more contact ability, and less plate discipline" part
  3. It's insane how quickly this Braves FO is trashing that franchise. - Bad Markakis contract - Didn't get enough for Heyward - Didn't get anything good for Upton - Wanted Manny Banuelos for some reason so traded good controllable relief for him (Shreve) - Weird Kimbrel trade, obfuscated by Maybin-Upton contract swap - Wood + Peraza for Olivera and then they move Olivera to LF??? - Probably got schooled in the Johnson for Swisher and Bourn deal, but I'm too lazy to check - This Simmons trade The one good move: Getting Toussaint for free It's like their entire plan is to start over from scorched earth. John Hart and a thousand pitching prospects.
  4. Sean Newcomb is a very good prospect - he's just nowhere near worth five affordable years of Simmons' physical prime. year/age 2016/26 /$6,000,000 2017/27 /$8,000,000 2018/28 /$11,000,000 2019/29 /$13,000,000 2020/30 /$15,000,000 Value comparison with Toronto would be Revere (Aybar) + Pompey (Newcomb) + Angel Perdomo? But Revere has an extra year of control on Aybar and Pompey is arguably worth more than Newcomb.
  5. I think Shields is still a small asset. The term isn't very long and he's extremely durable and reliable. His profile compares well to Mark Buehrle when Toronto traded for him. He also had a career year last season in K rate, which is something.
  6. You saw a very tiny sample from when he clearly wasn't ready for the big leagues. Simmer down, Frenchy.
  7. Why not? Seems reasonable. This is baseball 2015. Chapman might be a boss but he's also an RP making a lot of money for one year.
  8. I dropped him on the 15th amidst minor injury concerns to try and stream an extra Hold from Addison Reed. Benoit ended up getting a hold on the 16th, and then Reed got one on the 18th. So it was a nothing move. BUT I ended up tied in Holds and tied in the matchup, losing the tiebreaker to slivergums. So if I had have waited one day to do the add/drop I would have made the finals. JOAQUÍN!!!!
  9. "he doesn't have any power" - BTS
  10. Off of Felix Hernandez. His swing is geared for line drives, but I think his power will stack up to guys like Victorino, Shannon Stewart, Desmond Jennings, if the rest of his game can let him stick in the big leagues.
  11. Enyol de los Santos and Nelson Ward. Looks like a nice little deal for San Diego.
  12. holy wall of text
  13. Leverage dem wins His value is substantial
  14. They'd probably want Pompey. 1) someone for Votto to talk to 2) they need OF help because Jesse Winker isn't particularly good
  15. He's a 26 year old generational defensive player. He could lose a dozen steps and still be a good defender. He'll probably play shortstop until he's 40 and be pretty awesome at it almost until the end.
  16. Scientific proof that defense is still a market inefficiency!
  17. Someone will give him like $5M. Like Kyle Kendirick
  18. Well Chavez isn't a free agent. His salary won't approach $8M. And Colby Lewis is the type of (non) talent that I wouldn't want at any price. Even at only a couple million dollars, I wouldn't want him taking up a rotation spot. Maybe I'm misjudging his talent but off the cuff he seems like a well below average starting pitcher.
  19. Ok, LaCava might as well be from this message board. On Hutch: "We know it’s in there and if you look at his peripherals, his walk rate’s good, his strikeout rate is solid, he’s had success in the past and for some reason it just didn’t manifest itself in ERA."
  20. shocking!
  21. Nice, good thing TRM ignored by legitimate offers for him from a month ago. Why do I own Brad Miller?
  22. Here are the key points from the policy: — MLB discipline is not dependent on a criminal conviction, however, the commissioner reserves the right to defer a decision on discipline until criminal cases are resolved. — There are no maximum, or minimum, penalties. — Disciplinary rulings can be appealed, and appeals will be heard by an independent arbitrator. — The A-Rod provision: The current policy includes a provision that the player and union can be represented "only by in-house counsel of the players' association and/or by outside counsel appointed by the players' association." This comes after Alex Rodriguez elected to have outside counsel represent him when appealing his season-long ban. — Three experts will chair a joint policy board tasked with developing a treatment plan. The confidential treatment could included mandatory counseling and psychological evaluations. Players who do not comply are open to additional discipline from the commissioner. I don't think we'll see anything drastic (like a year suspension, if he's convicted). I think for a case of this nature the suspension length would (rationally or irrationally) be anchored to the prohibited substance (not PED) suspension length regime, which is like ~25 days for a first offense. If Reyes is not convicted criminally then you might see no suspension, just a treatment plan agreement. Certainly interesting.
