  1. I took it as 2006-2015 Still, you know that your example demonstrates nothing at all. To quote yourself, "Someone who professes to understand statistics as well as you do should understand that."
  2. now I'm hungry
  3. Are you trying to tell me that you went back to 2006 and the list of the top 39 MLB pitchers alphabetically went all the way to Benson? Do you think I'm a retard?
  4. Quirk based on low K% There are quite a few obvious quirk players on KATOH's list. The model needs some work.
  5. Since 1950 there have only been 39 pitchers 5'8" or shorter in the majors. Take any random 39 pitcher sample and how many would have "sustained success as a starter?" Here's one 5'8" guy that started a good chunk of games: http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/n/normafr01.shtml
  6. Stroman has more pitchability, better command/control (better balance through his delivery too), and more tricks in his bag of pitches. He also has a work ethic and personality that rises above anyone else's. There are some things on his side too, in terms of aging gracefully. We'll see.
  7. 5 games for eligibility is actually pretty absurd. Is it customizable in Yahoo? I don't think so, but 10 or 15 would be better.
  8. Yeah well when your "school" involves hanging out with a bunch of amateur boxers...
  9. Step 1 - collect underpants
  10. In the words of Linguo - "Sentence fragment."
  11. Oh, you guys never posted it on ProBoards. Please do so in the future - things get buried quickly in this thread.
  12. I dunno. Even last year, the Dodgers had this tendency to hoard an absurd amount of depth anywhere they could. They acquired and signed guys like Olivera and Peraza (could list 10 names) just to bury them way down the depth chart.
  13. I think Stroman has a slightly cleaner and generally more athletic delivery. The injury risk that comes with being short is probably overrated and possibly non-existent. I mean, shorter guys might have to use more effort and dirtier mechanics in order to throw hard, which could cause injury, but that's a different primary cause.
  14. No, but judging from the Giles and Kimbrel trades, other teams are.
  15. People overreact to Urena not hitting the OBP checkpoint of .300 in 2015, I think. In 2014 in the Appy he was one of the 10 youngest position players and he had a 129 wRC+ In 2013 in the DOSL he was the 12th youngest position player and he had a 137 wRC+ In 2015 he tapped into some power. Obviously he's a work in progress but I don't think he's completely cemented himself yet as some hopeless hacker that can't hit right handed or can't hit breaking balls. Look at the massive leaps that a guy like Lewis Brinson took this past year in terms of plate discipline. He's a toolsy shortstop with upside, approaching the upper minors, within a thin system. I think you can argue for him over anybody not named Alford. On my prospect list I should have ranked him ahead of Pentecost and Harris.
  16. Terrible league name. Somehow even worse than the woefully dated BBDL.
  17. I don't think criminal guilt absolutely needs to be a prerequisite for professional penalties. Obviously sports leagues need a more fair and consistent process for handing out penalties in situations like domestic violence ones, but what's at stake is significantly different for the individual vs. a criminal case so the standards of proof and reasonable behaviour really should be different too. I just hate how the commissioners are given the arbitrary power. There should be an independent body and some sort of actual, expedited judicial process.
  18. Maybe they get serious about trading Miller now, so they aren't wasting elite innings in low/mid leverage situations all year long. Would be kind of funny if they did and then Chapman went to jail / missed the whole season. It's not like the domestic thing was his first brush with the law. There's other weird stuff on his public record.
  19. Seems like GD is the clubhouse cancer in this league
