    Frankly, there isn't a very strong argument. Dexter Fowler is quite overrated right now. But there is an argument and it says that Toronto needs an outfielder, a leadoff hitter, and a guy to help from the left hand side of the plate and Dexter is all of those things. Also, Bautista is coming off a bad year at 36 and Dexter Fowler is coming off a very good year at 30 years old. The chance that Bautista is toast is real and Dexter is a pretty safe commodity. They'll get a similar AAV and Toronto has limited money so maybe best if they go the safer (younger) route.

    Yeah he can't throw anymore. It was almost sad last season. On the current team Steve Pearce should play LF, Bautista should start at 1B/DH, and they should still add a body for RF.

    Mostly not getting a chance. In 2014 he didn't become starter until mid June. Last two years he has had a couple injuries.

    He's a fringe 1B but a great CF. Probably an OF3 without improvement?

    Piscotty is worth double Melancon. Sale is probably worth a bit more than 2 Benintendis. I think Spittin ate a bit of value but it's nothing egregious. Benintendi isn't just some good prospect down in AA. Maybe Spittin should have asked for one more asset back.

    Career UZR/150 is +1.2 in the OF and +8.8 at 1B. I think he'll play basically every day and rotate between the two spots. Maybe if they do sign Moreland Pearce will play LF against RHP.

    IF they actually want Moreland then it's heavily implied. Moreland is a one inch upgrade on Smoaky. It's literally his role - 1B defense and a guy who can kind of hit RHP with power. Can't roster both of them IMO. Unless Smoak has a dance partner in the trade market (I can't imagine who) then he's probably toast and will be sleeping with the fishes by the end of the winter meetings.

    MASSIVE news for recipients of the Jose Fernandez death compensation in this league and others - Otani to be posted after the 2017 season. What a development. The compensation package that was so speculative just grew in value by a lot. In the Legend of Zelda: The Ocarina of Time the Great Deku dies in the intro and it's the most sad but then later in the game there is a scene where an awesome baby Great Deku tree has sprouted up in his roots. This is what this feels like to me right now.
