  1. Shapiro actually hangs a Covey quote in his office. Some line about being a win/win "altrupeneur" and "talking straight, building trust, and overdelivering"..... I can't remember exactly what the line is. No jokes.
  2. No joke, I actually know someone who knows Dexter Fowler's barber and he said this was a relevant factor. Stro and Bautista talked to Dex at the white party they were all at a week ago and the feeling Dex got was that Toronto's front office is pretty cold and ambivalent about the players. That's just what I heard through the grape vine.
  3. slave labour from the wife for fantasy baseball graphic design purposes is 10/10 worthy regardless of the result
  4. It's cute but I have to scroll to see all the content so 9/10
  5. Smoak is 30 years old and has zero career WAR in over 800 games. Very real chance he wouldn't get a major league offer and would be seriously weighing a contract offer from the KBO if he were a free agent. Not that it matters in this context. If there's an upgrade they should just cut him loose and swallow the pill.
  6. Sorry. These Dodgers hypotheticals are out to lunch.
  7. No, they had to do a full removal of the meniscus IIRC. His knee doesn't have a physical state that will ever go back to normal. Actually, he is predisposed to even faster decline now. He's basically missing the biological shock absorber in his knee. More prone to pain, cartilage damage, arthritis onset.
  8. Yeah it's hard to see a trade fit http://www.bluejaysmessageboard.com/threads/7023-Trade-for-Yasiel-Puig-(NJH-5)
  9. If he's going to end up in Toronto it might be a signing that happens later in the offseason. I'm sure Valbuena's preference right now is a guaranteed starting gig, at 3B in a perfect world. Toronto can only really offer rotational playing time between 1B, DH, maybe LF, and backing up 2B and 3B.
  10. Happ might not even make their rotation. They are probably looking to trade medicore veterans like Kazmir and McCarthy, not acquire another one in Happ. If they are truly looking for another SP it's just another front end option, not any arm. Kershaw, Maeda, Hill, Urias, De Leon, McCarthy, Kazmir, Wood, Stewart, Stripling, Ryu
  11. Friday at 1pm... I'm going to guess the point is procrastination.
  12. so TL;DR Toronto needs an OF
  13. Let's just leave it as a tab for a bit so it's obvious to everyone and we can collect links. We only have 6/20 trade blocks so lots of people haven't even gotten the news. Once we get 20/20 we can streamline like that and remove redundant s***
  14. Contract basically = his fair value. Losing the draft pick means St Louis essentially pays $92-95M in value. That's the push they had to make to get him.
  15. It's possible. There are always a couple 18 year old hitters in the Midwest League (Correa, Lindor, Torres, Adames)
  16. It's obviously good to hear but to be honest the old scout seems a bit deluded. His scouting prowess is a gift from god? He calls his old signees on the phone to correct their swings with immediate results? meh.
  17. I remember Tim Lincecum bet on himself and lost just before 2011. I think he turned down a $100M extension. But the Giants inexplicably gave him a $35M extension anyway when he didn't deserve it down the road so he didn't suffer. Should have lost out on $75M though!
  18. Yes if it's a $90M contract then they potentially overpaid by about $20M in total value. But whatever.
  19. This is silly. In general, FA contracts are neutral. That's how we determine what the market value of a win is!!! We look at the cost of wins on the free agent market!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  20. Just to follow up... Here is how ZiPS Dan Szymborki declines WAR and evaluates Fowler. A bit more elegant than Fangraphs. That he goes -0.3 and then 0.2 is probably just a rounding aberration.
  21. The Blue Jays already have an old as f*** team with lots of short term moves in their recent history! Russell Martin was Dexter Fowler two years ago. Tulowitzki could die any day now. Three of the starting rotation make free agent money, and they were all acquired or re-signed by the current FO. The farm was pillaged in the past two years for Tulo, Donaldson, Price (also Hawkins, Lowe, Revere, Pennington, Chavez, Upton, Feldman). Any full-steam-ahead moves right now aren't made in isolation, they would compound upon past transactions.
  22. Amazing what can fit up there with a bit of lube
