  1. Man, that's a tough trigger to pull even if the value is there in the trade. Catchers are so tough to project.
  2. Toronto is really getting sad with their hashtags. 2015 #ComeTogether 2016 #OurMoment 2017 #LetsRise 2018 #BlueJays 2019 #LetsGoBlueJays 2020 #NotCompetingThisYearBob
  3. Yes Bob, I'm sure Mark and Ross are putting this on the whiteboards.
  4. This is probably a good sign. Hopefully they fill out the 26 man roster with FA signings and trade acquisitions rather than crummy rule 5 players like Luciano. I think they need to replace: - Borucki (1 option) with a SP - Alford (no options, cut him) with a decent player who can play CF - Tellez (1 option) with a better bat who can play 1B and maybe an OF corner - Urena (no options, cut him) with a better bench MIF option - 2 or 3 of SRF, Pannone, Gaviglio, Romano, Waguespack (all have options) with better relievers Some of the above could be accomplished without directly replacing the player but by signing adequate veteran MiLB depth like Sogard last year.
  5. Wow, Davidi says Toronto was pursuing Moustakas with a level of interest that actually saw Atkins and Montoyo visit Moose at his home. They must really want a good LHB.
  6. I feel like it's just better to give his potential playing time to guys like Teoscar or Fisher, rather than run some science experiment on 29/30 year old Billy Hamilton to see if he can slapdick his way to 2 WAR again.
  7. Wow, Atkins actually said something with some juice that wasn't completely vapid. Pulled back the curtain as much as they ever do. Ben Nicholson-Smith @bnicholsonsmith #BlueJays are looking at outfielders, but not fringe guys. Atkins: "We'd be very open to adding in CF as long as it's a significant upgrade."
  8. Lindblom’s deal can double to $18M based on incentives
  9. Fuuuuuuuck yer a idiot
  10. Lindblom's deal can actually max out at over $18M with performance bonuses.
  11. Lindblom is from Lafayette which is like 3.5 hours by car from Milwaukee. Hard to compete with that proximity when the player is a 32 year old coming back from five seasons in Korea; he probably thinks about this as coming "home". I don't doubt that Toronto offered more money and he just didn't think it was worth it. He probably made several million dollars over the last few seasons in Korea so it's not like he's destitute. I wanted Lindblom more than anybody and I am heartbroken and don't think I'll ever get over him but it is what it is. Tanner Roark is a fine addition. They needed someone like him. I don't care about it being a slight overpay perhaps on paper.
  12. He has the tools to be as good as say peak JA Happ but I don't think he'll get there and he shouldn't be that good in Milwaukee. I don't know if I'll even keep the reliever though.
  13. Alford and McKinney don't really factor into my projected 26 man roster. McKinney still has an option. I think Fisher is a good fit for a bench spot. Teoscar and Calhoun could split time in a corner and through DH; they are complement each other with the handedness. The defense also helps the fit because Calhoun can replace Teoscar in the OF if Teoscar has started and Calhoun would be a huge defensive upgrade. I think Teoscar has an option too, actually? It seems kind of obvious at this point that Toronto wants a LHB that can fit in at OF/1B. Yoshi is my preference. I think (hope?) we'll see Toronto run 6 or 7 players at any given time through the outfield spots and 1B and DH. Kind of a Rays roster construction where the little things like platoon advantage and defensive switches are always taken advantage of.
  14. Trollosi caveats aside, when Toronto is reported to be competing for a player against CIN, MIA, and MIL, you have to like Toronto's chances of getting the guy if they actually want him. Calhoun was good enough last year and has been average or better his entire career, save for 2018. He's probably a projectable 1-2 WAR upgrade on the current roster if they then line up the OF Gurriel-Grichuk-Calhoun. He's not an addition to sneeze at and I'd certainly f***ing take it. Did you guys know that Brito, Fisher, Drury, Hanson, Pillar, Urena, Davis, and Alford with Toronto combined for like negative 3 wins last year?
  15. okay I'll just ignore the rest of this post and give myself another W for this exchange poster of the year is in the bag
  16. I am the biggest Rogers / Blue Jays apologist on the board and even I am starting to question what exactly Ross Atkins does aside from piss off the casual fans with meaningless quotes and tell everybody his favourite penguin facts all day long.
  17. The "older prospect" point is not the smartest. Walker was a college pick in 2018. He'll be a 23 year old in AA in 2020. He's on track with many other college picks and only like, ~200 AA plate appearances behind a number of even elite 2018 college picks. Joey Bart spent most of 2019 in A+ just like Walker!
  18. I don't think Mazara has any actual value in terms of projected production vs. projected contracts. He only has value if you think there is still realizable upside there and put a $$ value on the chance that he might reach it. Steele Walker is pretty good and interesting.
  19. Top to bottom possibly but teams have had better top ends of the rotation (2019 Nats!). And I'll say no anyway because you can look at teams like the 2003 Yankees who got 23.7 fWAR from their rotation and then had a bullpen with Mariano Rivera closing games. Or the 2011 Phillies!
  20. Teams never stopped paying for elite starters. Darvish got paid, Corbin got paid, Tanaka got a huge extension. Arrieta got less than he wanted but had a lot of red flags and he still got a decent AAV. Price set a record in 2016. IIRC there were no elite starters in the 2017 market.
  21. This trade is a good illustration of how far apart team fan bases can be, and how subjective knowledge and talent analysis is in baseball. I'm seeing lots of White Sox fans crying about this trade because Mazara sucks and Steele Walker is a good prospect. I'm seeing lots of Rangers fans crying about how they got almost nothing for the Nomar Mazara. Of course, the Rangers won the deal because Nomar Mazara does in fact blow.
  22. Never. By definition they aren’t executed - they vest.
  23. Tonight I will be legitimately exploring some KFC, I think.
  24. Yankees fans on twitter are scared of Happ staying in the division! I wouldn’t want to trade Happ back to Toronto. He’ll get good again lol. Send him out of the division. It’s amazing how many other people forget how good he was from 2016-2018. Even if he was bad last year, I don’t want him in the division. Send him to the NL
  25. And there's a chance he rebounds. He was a 3 WAR pitcher for four years in a row before 2018. He was excellent in Toronto so obviously likes pitching here. If he bounces back high enough, that 2021 vesting option might not look that bad. Biggest reason to avoid doing it at this juncture is that it would still be preferable to land, say, Ryu and Lindblom. Happ should be more of a "well, f*** - we got nobody" move.
