  1. Honestly I am going to lose my mind if baseball Twitter continues to be dominated by idiots who think that the entire system is broken every time a team makes a financially motivated move. Rays trade Snell - it's a disgrace for the sport. Big market Cubs trade Darvish - the sport is broken. Burn it down. Do these idiots realize that for every sad fan there is a happy fan? The Padres fans think the sport is perfect right now.
  2. He's 34. If he's a free agent right now how much more does he get than the 3/$60 he's currently owed? I would guess a bit higher AAV and one more year. He's great and he has value but it's not like Blake Snell trade value or really anything close to it. I think the Cubs did okay. They got a bulk package of solid prospects from a deep system. I think they'll like this in hindsight even if none of the players really go bananas.
  3. Darvish is owed a lot of money. He doesn't have as much value as people think
  4. Could be some combo of little things, clues about character, and also the knowledge that there are plenty more fish this offseason. No reason to get tunnel vision on one player and sign a slightly uncomfortable deal
  5. It's interesting. From a player development perspective it's probably pretty scary to bring in a 25 year old, essentially a AAA type of prospect, and guarantee him a significant sum of money without being able to demote him. What if the player has trouble adjusting and gets in a rut? What if they actually do need to work on something in AAA? Not being able to freely option them for their own benefit actually increases the bust risk, as far as I see it. On the surface it seems like a small thing but I can see why Toronto didn't want to write it into the deal. Maybe it also says something about the player... like, the team is going to guarantee you 30-40M - you really don't want to accept the possibility that you might need to work on something in AAA at some point?
  6. According to this guy Toronto basically had Kim if they were willing to put anti-demotion terms into the contract. I wonder if this will end up as a tough pill for Toronto swallow. Jason (Hanshin) Lee @Jasons_JaysHub Police cars revolving light Final Ha-Seong Kim update. -Kim preferred a move to Toronto while his family preferred a West coast team -Toronto made numerous offers to Kim, but none included a “no minors” clause -Kim ended up choosing SD b/c he was guaranteed MLB baseball @Jasons_JaysHub [MBC Sports Plus]
  7. Which website has the stats? Nvm I see them on BR Lol Ang. He has almost the best OPS on the team
  8. What's his slashline? I've heard he's been a nightmare at 3B
  9. Reading way too far between the lines - I bet Dinelson Lamet needs TJS or shoulder surgery Sell hard in fantasy!!!
  10. I said infield signing, not offseason
  11. The dream offseason infield signing is still Justin Turner on like a 2 year deal
  12. Edwards. Not even close.
  13. Yes, everyone *should* prefer the package with the rarer singular talent, because that player is harder to get. It's not comparatively hard to get a player like Hunt or Wilcox, right.
  14. Conflicting messages now. Joel Sherman is the one reporter saying the Padres are "in the lead". He is saying the deal will have an AAV of $7-8M and be 4-5 years, but only guarantee an amount in the high $20M's, which seems silly and is non-specific enough for me to think that he is being fed BS and doesn't have a clue. Other reporters (Korean) are saying Kim is coming for a physical but it's not with a specific team. I don't get the fit with the Padres. Kim has only started one game at 2B in his KBO career. Are they throwing Cronenworth into the outfield? Seems odd.
  15. I think Manoah has to be worth more than Wilcox. Moreno probably worth more than Hunt. Moreno + Manoah + SWR might be comparable to Patino + Wilcox + Hunt, all things considered.
  16. Imagine having dinner with Ryu and leaking it to the press just so you can leverage more money out of the Padres. Ruthless
  17. He'd have to quarantine up here. They'd do the physical in the States, I'm sure.
  18. Buster says the Padres are making a "serious run" at Kim. We've seen Preller do things in a flurry before so it would kind of make sense right now.
  19. Going to merge some Kim stuff into its own thread. Posting deadline is January 1st. We know Toronto has offered him a deal, reportedly for five or more years. https://www.sportsnet.ca/mlb/article/report-blue-jays-make-offer-free-agent-shortstop-ha-seong-kim/ Other teams rumoured in are Mets, Rangers, Padres... maybe a couple more I can't remember. Red Sox and Cardinals I think?
  20. Luis Patino would have been untouchable at times within the last two years. I think he is 80% of the equation here for TB. Everything else is a garnish
  21. I'd just use Pearson if you really want to build a comparable. Patino is an elite young arm too and more similar to him than SWR. Pearson = Patino Adams < Hunt Manoah > Wilcox Mejia..... = Trent Thornton or Kevin Smith? Something s***** I think
  22. Sounds like Hunt is a real prospect too
  23. I was thinking about 3.50
  24. I don't even remember if there were legitimate Jays - Darvish rumours. I remember the whole Kevin Gray press conference thing
