Just like nobody is saying that all of these guys are cooked: Aranda, Bichette, Jarren Duran, Alonso, Springer, Bregman, Ketel Marte, Buxton, Roman Anthony, Geraldo Perdomo, Busch, Devers, Suarez, Sal Perez, Carson Benge, Grisham, Pasquantino, Josh Naylor (just a small sample of the guys at replacement level or worse so far) wow Josh Naylor has a negative wRC+ after 15 games. WBC Naylor is trucking along like a zombie into the MLB regular season.

Lenyn Sosa... I don't get it. He is a hacker (chases), without the elite contact ability, so you get a putrid K-BB% albeit without a completely catastrophic K% since he puts enough in play. He has decent pop and barrel control. Might have been making gains in the Pull-Air category in 2025. Bleeds runs everywhere on defense though and is all blue for OAA, baserunning, arm. It's like if Ezequiel Tovar was a minus defender. Doesn't he just compete with Schneider for at bats? Pros: is on the young side of the aging curve, he has never been tried in the OF so what if he is a decent LF, he can hit the ball hard (72nd percentile maxEV) and barrel and has shown Pull-Air growth. Has experience around the infield, if you need an infield statue anywhere. Cons: One of the worst K-BB you will find in the sport. 1st percentile BB rate. 20th or 30th percentile speed, arm, defense. One note - his 2025 chase rate in the 3rd percentile is much worse than his swing rate (more 30th percentile) would hint at. We are talking top 10 o swing % vs like top 70 Swing% (out of 277). It's either evidence that he has terrible zone sense, or an area of potential growth?

Spencer Jones - checking on in this freak in AAA .206/.341/.471 Okay.... 14.6% BB 46.3% K rate WHAT Contact% 47% IS THAT A TYPO So his AAA numbers so far are kind of like Joey Gallo's MLB career numbers. Except Gallo had a 60% contact rate. He's ngmi, there is no way this works. If Jones was 22 or something I could see it with marginal improvements but he is 25 in two months.

Hoffman's stuff appears largely the same, but he is really throwing less FB and more Splitters. His command appears much better so far. He's an interesting reliever. Found that splitter years ago, but it was his third weapon. He was a 40% slider guy with Philadelphia. Tried to be more of a three pitch guy last year, with disastrous results. Interesting and surprising that he is now a 40% splitter guy. His overall Stuff+ does not support this kind of K rate though. A good chunk of that is a mirage. Worth noting, however, that his velo is slightly up on everything. If the command improvements hold, he should be very good. I guess splitters are hard to run through the Stuff models so there is also the possibility that it is an elite pitch but the models don't recognize it.

It's true The role they have assumed fits him best is a platoon player who can hit LHP and low velo and is an acceptable but poor defender in LF. But on the stat sheet, in his career, he has actually hit RHP better. Whether this is his true talent or not is a different question. And he is basically a perfectly average defender at both 2B and LF for his career. And not a baserunning liability. We will probably never know what Davis Schneider would look like as a near full time player. He's a batting eye god - elite BB% and almost never chases. And he's a great sweet spot / barrel hitter as well. You could compare him to a hitter like Max Muncy, honestly. Or Torkelson/Hoskins but if they could play a decent LF. We will probably never know.
