  1. If baseball is dead-set on ending games early I think rather than the runner on 2nd rule, I would prefer something like this: If the game is tied after 12 innings the team with the most base hits is awarded the victory. If tied in hits, the team with the most players reaching first base for any reason wins. If tied there too, you just get more granular (least amount of pitches thrown, highest strike percentage, I dunno). And the rulebook would probably have a coin flip at the end that would never be used. Why? No stupid on the field stuff and if hits are the first tiebreaker it kind of incentivizes putting the ball in play at all times. I dunno.
  2. Votto is a hall of famer for that career transformation alone, lol he is so freakishly good. it's insane.
  3. Yeah see Jon Lester is the lefty starter that I think of when I think of cutters. I don't think he even threw a slider.
  4. I looked at the top 1B in both 2000 and 2010 and a LOT of them fall off a cliff at some point around 33, 34 years old. Guys like Pujols, Adrian Gonzalez, Miggy, Fielder, Tex, Konerko, Helton, Giambi, Delgado, Olerud... ... almost none of them are guys you would have wanted on a big contract for their mid-late 30s. Most gave their teams a bunch of negative WAR seasons and maybe a couple league average years. I don't think many people, even certain SABR people, give age effects the appropriate consideration. They can make all the difference. When it's a 32 year old vs a 27 year old like Freeman and Olson.... I mean history tells us that Freeman may have 1 or 2 more good years before he sucks and Olson should be good for most of his contract.
  5. I wonder if he should just drop the cutter entirely? Like do you really need a fastball variant without elite movement that is 92mph when you have a 4 seamer that is 95? I wonder if the cutter just does not complement his 4 seamer slider combo well...
  6. comp in what sense? plenty of elite 1B types have cratered f***, Miggy fell off a cliff at 34
  7. well that's good. babies need food.
  8. congratulations daddy boxcar did wife make you get rid of all your poisonous spiders?
  9. Was just thinking about you that's all
  10. Craig Goldstein left it out because he's a disingenuous hack
  11. welcome to BJMB bring your own towel the safe word is "Boxcar"
  12. I just cannot wrap my head around how: 1. runner starting on 2nd is an abomination that is disrespectful to the ghost of Cap Anson but 2. letting games end in a tie is fine You can only hold opinion 1. if your other opinions are basically "they should never change anything about how the games are played, judged, or decided" like, even having the pitchers not hit is a fundamental chance to game mechanics...
  13. good thing you put your money where your mouth is and stuck with it in all your dynasty leagues right
  14. Look at the roster, kid. It's a new franchise. It's possible
  15. Sign Kris Bryant's wife. I bet she can slug
  16. Yeah I'd take Schwarber unless the cost got too stupid. He'd be the DH for me though and Grichuk is on the bench. That's a 2 win upgrade... ... but I get where grant is coming from. I doubt Toronto actually wants to clog up the DH spot. Schwarber is a pretty bad OF, you would not want him out there all the time.
  17. Also Matz was 100% maxed out on talent and it seems like Kikuchi MIGHT have a bit more to offer.
  18. Yeah I don't think the Olson return is that bad. Pache and Langeliers could be everyday players as defense first guys. How much of Olson's 2021 changes will stick forever? I guess it was a full healthy season so the K rate reduction should stick but.... his track record does make me think some regression will happen.
  19. lmao players and their agents will try to milk every penny out of a negotiating team and then get indignant when the team decides to move to plan B? that's just the game, Freddie. you're a free agent; they don't owe you a phone call if they want to trade for someone.
  20. amazing the yankees really do suck lately
  21. I just don't see his stuff as Cy Young good. Now he is young so that could change but I think he needs a bit more in the arsenal to be an Ace. Needs a third weapon.
  22. Or your bookie knows how to tickle your fancy
  23. They can just trade the prospects after picking them. It's not like preventing draft picks being traded forces teams to curate a pipeline of talent. And the teams that want to trade all their picks probably suck at MAKING the picks anyway so maybe they would improve their MLB teams over time without being forced to make s***** draft picks.
  24. Yeah the Jays depth cascade is just a bit awkward. A left handed bat who can play CF would fit well. I guess that's Palacios but he can't be relied on much. Also a left handed infielder who could fall into a platoon with either Smith or Espinal would fit well. This could literally be Biggio if a bona fide starter at 2B or 3B of any handedness is brought in. Lefties, lefties, lefties. Jays have zero good lefty bats even on the 40 man roster unless you consider Biggio one. Maybe this is why Greg Bird was brought in on the minor league deal. Might have to be a trade though because you've named all the worthwhile lefties and the list is so short. And they are so flawed, all of them.
