    The core rule is not complicated but the circumstances were extremely unique so no, it is not something we see all the time. I DO AGREE that the umps should have figured it all out sooner. The New York Super Umps not knowing this within 4 minutes is embarrassing.

    It is just one of those sports plays that SEEMS COMPLICATED live but when you look at it after the fact, it really was simple. They just never appealed the runner leaving third base early.

    The run counts, this scenario is spelled out in the rulebook APPROVED RULING: One out, Jones on third, Smith on first, and Brown flies out to right field. Two outs. Jones tags up and scores after the catch. Smith attempted to return to first but the right fielder’s throw beat him to the base. Three outs. But Jones scored before the throw to catch Smith reached first base, hence Jones’ run counts. It was not a force play.

    Remember also the scoreboard being wrong and displaying two outs... Many players and umps thought the catch ended the inning

    Boston is just a well-rounded team getting a bit lucky. They kind of do everything well. Blend of veterans and exciting young players. I guess the pitching development has been particularly impressive and their pitching on the whole has been elite this summer. I really liked the Marcelo Meyer trade. Must be hard to cut a 23 year old with his former pedigree but they had the balls to admit that he sucks.

    Every team in baseball other than the Rockies knows what makes a good baseball player. They know who projects well. Their internal top prospect lists and player evaluations will be 98% identical. Since everyone knows what everyone knows, teams need to take chances and try to find an edge. Cutting edge research. New ideas. Risks. Sometimes it works and you are the first team to go heavy on seam shifted wake development in your complex leagues. Sometimes it doesn't work. Maybe the idea with Bateman is just that models have gone a bit too far on batter ball info. Sometimes the collective can't see the forest for the trees. I don't know. It will be interesting to see how he does. Obviously Toronto thinks he's something and there is some reason for it but it may not be some genius insight as much as just, hey, he's a CF MLB ready with appropriate age vs level and a .429 OBP... Nathan Lukes, the AAA Blue Jays version, was just a contact and get on base guy. And a corner outfield profile with bad age vs level.

    There was a lot of starting pitching available so waiting had the obvious risk of being the team left holding the bag I see his logic in moving quicker on the Gausman trade

    Website that publishes a Top Prospects List really wants you all to think that Top Prospect Lists matter. Jefferson Rojas has a 114 wRC+ in AA after a 113 last year. Brett Bateman has a 50% chance to accumulate more WAR by next thanksgiving than Jefferson Rojas will have in his entire career
