  1. Yeah Elly De La Cruz really fell off. Him being a bit of a mirage was one of the reasons the season sucked, haha. New Superstar!? Nope.
  2. It kind of seems like the only cool thing to follow in MLB this year was Acuna's season. And even then the SB total has this little asterisk beside it because of the rule changes. No pitcher had an "all time" season. The best player in baseball suffered a major injury. The best living legend in baseball barely played. Sandy Alcantara and Shane McClanahan both died. Wander Franco uhhhhhhhh did something. A few star young players like Vlad, Tatis Jr., Oneil Cruz, Eloy Jimenez, etc. had really bad years.
  3. wait, lmao connorp is so dumb he made a point that is the exact opposite of his argument the nerds in our weeks-long discussion are asking for more of a meritocracy! lmao you are the guys who want the underprivileged teams to get a chance and then when they get lucky and win you want us all to pretend they are great and just as good and cool and worthy as the strong teams lmfao lmfao lmfao
  4. Vlad probably deserved a nomination over Lowe and Torkelson. I guess that's the only possible gripe. Bo's injuries and him trailing off in Aug/Sep did leave him behind the SS nominees. JP Crawford's season is shocking, haha.
  5. None of us know a lot about corporate finance and MLB franchise financials, but this definitely smells like trouble. Have to assume SDP will be looking to chop significant payroll. In addition to Soto, trade possibilities are: Machado - huge contract Boogers - huge contract Tatis Jr. - huge contract but he's only 25 years old in 2024 Musgrove - 4/$80M left.... probably a "fair" contract to take on Darvish - 5/$83 left... he is 37. too scary based on age. Cronenworth - bad contract based on 2023 and his age but it's not a huge AAV Suarez - not a chance Kim - $8M in 2024, lots of value Scott Barlow - final arb 2024, will get like $9M Grisham - two years left of arb, will get like $5M then $7.5M or whatever I think they might trade Grisham, Barlow, and Musgrove. I think they do trade Soto. I think they might try to get out of the Cronenworth deal in some way. They would need to work very hard to get out of the Machado or Boogers deals... need a special deal and willing buyer. Not likely. Tatis Jr. there would be takers for that contract but ooof that's a bad PR move for SDP.
  6. [–]PuzzleheadedPut4309 5 points 3 hours ago Favourite player to coach? And if you are down to say it, least favourite player to coach? [–]johngibbons05 27 points 2 hours ago Devon Travis was my favorite, Brett Lawrie was a handful, but I still loved him LOL he slams Brett Lawrie
  7. [–]cb32 24 points 4 hours ago One of my favourite parts of your time as manager was your ejections. Do you have a specific ejection that was the most memorable for you? [–]johngibbons05 148 points 3 hours ago One time Joe West told me our team stinks so if he has to stay out there and watch it, I do too, so he wouldnt throw me out wow. Joe West with the dunk.
  8. Texas might feel like tonight is their best shot to clinch it. Eovaldi has the edge on Gallen based on how they have both looked all postseason. Gallen has been brutal and Eovaldi has been a legend. But Kelly - Montgomery is more of a push. And Pfaadt vs..... Jon Gray I suppose? Is also a push. But it would be all hands on deck for game 7 I guess.

Sounds like the NHL But the hockey cards last forever

They are a bit uncomfortable. At least, the old versions are. We used to tape them up to make them thinner in minor hockey. They probably aren't made the same anymore, though. I think most of it is just not wanting to look like a dork. Visors came a long way when they stated making them tinted and s*** and young superstars like Ovechkin were wearing them.
  11. If you keep saying the same thing over and over, it will be interpreted as intentional trolling (importantly, the not funny kind of trolling) and we will just ban you. heads up.
  12. Not in love with him or anything But round 2 is where the draft typically starts to thin out, so the second half of round 2 isn't really a spot where you can just pick a top 100 prospect reliably.
  13. Ah meant to decline it last night, I think Seems pointless
  14. Arizona is full of turncoats too. Luvollo, Gurriel (played like s*** for the Jays), Moreno (basically demanded a trade by breaking his hand and hitting like a slapdick batter), Miguel Castro (tried to sewer the Jays in 2015).

Visors began with players simply choosing to wear them We probably see certain players coming through junior choose to wear neck protection in pro hockey now It might take some new tech that is more comfortable, though
  16. But it wouldn't be selling high. He missed almost the whole year with injuries. Kind of selling low, no?
  17. Tough for Jays fans to watch Texas take it home for sure But at least this version of the Rangers is pretty likeable. Nobody can cheer against Semien and Seager. Also it's better than watching the shitbirds, red sox, or yankees do it.
  18. Do you actually have brain damage?
  19. And yet luck provably is having a massive impact. This isn't weird. The team that wins the WS tends to get lucky on the way. It's not a bad thing. Relax, girl.
  20. I seem to remember one player from Japan or Korea who skipped domestic pro ball and somehow entered the MiLB system as a teenager. I forgot who it was though. I don't think they went to college. Oh, it was Hak-Ju Lee. I guess it's something some Korean players have done before, but probably no Japanese league players since their pro baseball system is so robust.
  21. Pitching was always the weakness But in the playoffs: - Eovaldi has been great (I think he was injured but I guess he found a way to pitch through it) - Montgomery has been super lucky (his playoff K and BB rates per9 are 4.94 and 1.45, lmao) - They have been very lucky to not get burned more often by the bullpen. Sporz, Gray, Bradford, Leclerc, and Chapman all have ERAs of 3.29 or less, but Gray is the only one with the DIPS to back it up; Sborz, Chapman, Leclerc, and Bradford all have significantly higher xFIPs and obviously mediocre or poor K and BB rates. They haven't really needed Scherzer or Heaney to be good. So yeah. Elite offense + one SP beasting (Eovaldi) + lots of luck with other pitchers = World Series.
  22. Honestly what do the DBacks even expect throwing out these scrubs relief arms There HAD to be a better way to map out this series than this in game 4

Raps are brutal. Siakam, OG, Trent Jr, Poeltl, Boucher have been non-existent. I don't know a lot about basketball but Barnes and Siakam have always seemed pretty incompatible to me. Like, they do the same things so it's awkward when they are both on the floor. One of them needs to be a better 3P shooter, basically.
  24. yeah and Boston even ate 50% of his salary as part of the deal really bad trade
  25. My guess for a Soto deal would be more like this: Soto + Cronenworth for Bag of players with marginal value and perhaps more name value than objective value. i.e., Tucker Toman + Cavan Biggio + Manuel Beltre + Yosver Zulueta I feel like SDP wants to dump salary and Cronenworth is close enough to being a good player that some GM might squint and think they can save him and make that contract a positive. Just using the Blue Jays players as an illustration. But the best kind of player is a prospect everyone knows who has seen their value plummet. So, SDP can pitch it as acquiring a "top prospect"
