  1. I get it But the trade definitely looks worse in hindsight because at the time Kirk looked a lot better. Kirk's combination of hitting skills (elite elite contact with decent power) with plus framing and blocking just looked so so good. He looks worse now because the power cratered. Like, if Kirk still looked like a sneaky star the trade does not feel as rough.
  2. I don't think the DBacks liked Kirk From the actual trade you can assume the DBacks were offering Thomas for MORENO and Toronto had to add a kicker to get Varsho
  3. Everybody could be fit healthy and happy with a great six figure job if they buckled down and worked hard Most people are fine being fat and tired and making $50k as an HVAC tech or whatever These "problems" are basically universal
  4. Vlad is performing at his 1st percentile possibilities in basically every way Mans could have been an 8 win 3B who slowly became a 1B then DH over an 18 year career Instead he's a 1 WAR DH already
  5. Bailey Ober and Ranger Suarez both pulled around 50 pitches today. The Berrios thing really is not that unique in the context of modern playoff baseball
  6. Atkins also said during the presser that the strategy probably worked if you look at the whole game. Limited them to two runs. I dunno if this is quite the bus throwing they everybody is saying it is
  7. I'm not 100% sure that everything has been decided I don't think Shapiro is a snap decision maker. And anything coming from Rogers down would be slow - corporate process
  8. I'd be thrilled with a 1.5 WAR season from Manoah at this point
  9. Yeah it's difficult to see it any other way anymore
  10. Minor league titles How many ppl have LoD plus DDL trophies?
  11. He has basically no value
  12. Yeah it's ******** Literally JS made the call. But if Atkins was being honest he would add something like "ultimately the structures in place that lead to John making that decision were put in place or the responsibility of myself". I also hated what he seemed to be saying about the front office being some kind of hands off observer once the season gets in motion.
  13. Atkins basically said they just make sure the Manager has all the data but the front office has no direct involvement in tactics. That seems problematic. But it also has to just be a bit of a lie. Like one of the pieces of "data" is probably a nerd memo outlining possible tactics. I dunno. Weird s***.
  14. Jim Bowden is a f***ing meathead We all know exactly how this decision was made. The front office discussed the tactics at length. They laid out the justification to Schneider and impressed upon him why it made sense. He probably agreed with them. Then the specifics of when exactly to pull the trigger are obviously up to JS. It would not have been "here is an idea John. Take it or leave it" It would be more like "here is what we think the optimal approach and gameplan is."
  15. Nobody knows King fractured his elbow while pitching last year. Two years before he had a "stress reaction" in his elbow. The fractured elbow is a rare/freak injury and it makes me think he is fragile and/or has risky mechanics. May had TJS and then had to have revisionary TJS. Baz I think just has the one TJS. I feel like Baz is slightly cleaner but the other two are as risky as it gets.
  16. Oof. Another nail in the coffin of the old school Ace. 170 IP is the new 200 IP
  17. Mentor Vlad, lol. They would probably never talk. That's like asking KD Lang to mentor Lizzo
  18. He's 40. He will never be fully healthy again
  19. 100% I mean, unless he gets hurt next year
  20. God no. I'd rather bring Belt back.
  21. Well the Rays just throw caution to the wind on pitching. They bring in guys with nightmare mechanics. Glass cannons all around. Same could be said for some of these other teams you mentioned. Miami has a farm producing all these fireballers but those prospects have risks. Toronto intentionally acquired veterans with track records of health and clean mechanics. The M's had a similar year to Toronto. For the most part they only had one rotation spot in flux. Castillo, Gilbert, and Kirby all made 30+ starts. Miller made 25 starts. The hole was Robbie Ray and Bryan Woo ended up stabilizing that. So, one major injury, much like Toronto's one "big health problem".
  22. I am so f***ing mad at the world reading these stats. Matt Chapman had like 10 HR stolen from him this year due to some combination of bad luck and an approach that doesn't maximize home runs. Maybe more than 10 HR. His spray chart on statcast has multiple blue "double" dots that are well over the average MLB of fence, lmao. 100th percentile hard hit rate with 98th percentile barrel rate and 98th percentile MaxEv equaling 17 HR in 581 PA is nothing but a constant bicycle kick in the nuts Can they uhhhhhhh lower the outfield walls a bit? They turned RC into Kauffman Stadium
  23. If his market doesn't develop it might be his only decent option.
  24. Getting moved to another role in the organization is the ultimate form of baseball front office cuckoldry. Ross, go sit in the corner and watch James have a turn.
