  1. no, but he signed a MiLB deal with in invite to spring training
  2. I don't agree with Shi It is perfectly fine for Toronto to go to arbitration with Vlad. Most of the time you want to avoid the process, but Vlad needs a kick in the pants anyway so let him have it.
  3. He's pretty close to Varsho at the dish though, haha
  4. Brewers would need a solid prospect for Adames, or at least two 45 FV types. He's nowhere near Burnes in value (doesn't have the upside) but he is solid. Schneider straight up is close. Kendry Rojas + Brandon Barriera is a prospect example. Horwitz + Barger, third example more MLB ready package. Manoah straight up works too but lol.
  5. RHH OF Free Agents who project for positive WAR: Soler (DH) Pham Taylor Merrifield Kike Profar (Switch) Anderson, Brian Grichuk Duvall Lewis (DH) Grossman (Switch) I hate most of these players. I like Pham and Taylor but they are probably looking for $10M and a starting role somewhere. Wonder how small of a contract some of them might sign though... Grossman made $2M last year. Maybe Toronto ends up spending $2M or $3M on one of these bums. Brian Anderson has a certain allure, because he owns a 3B glove. Same with Kike I guess.
  6. DRS #1 UZR #4 OAA #10 I think when you go through the players and just think about them critically, common sense lines up more with OAA. Like, you've got Bo Bichette, a fringe-average SS, an old right fielder, a meatball catcher, and Chris Farley at first base... yeah KK and Varsho are studs and Chapman was still really good but that doesn't seem like best in class total defense to me.
  7. Not by much, I guess the main point is that the defense wasn't even elite in 2023. It was... worse than the offense? Compared to the league. lol
  8. Last year's team was unwatchable but most of that was a) bad luck happening in front of your eyes, and key players underperforming in really frustrating ways It's very possible for a baseball team to be built around pitching and defense, with an adequate offense, and be entertaining and watchable! Good defense is fun. Quality pitching is fun. I'm just not entirely sure the Jays will have a good defense anymore.... KK and Varsho are elite, but then what? Jansen and Kirk are good by the metrics but not exactly toolsy. IKF should be elite at 3B but you give up a lot of offense to get that. Springer, Bo, Vlad are fringe-average at their positions I guess. Schneider is an unknown but we should assume he's not a good defender. Biggio is just whatever. Espinal is no longer a slick glove. Horwitz, you don't want on the field. A lot of the AAA guys sound like 2B, or positional nomads. A LOT kind of depends on the defensive season that Bo Bichette has, I guess. Fitting for a shortstop.
  9. I think in AA he was 3B and SS then up in AAA he was playing 2B more But that could have been due to who was on Buffalo with him.
  10. He was definitely a "generational prospect" and is a HOF but I would say that his MLB career hasn't been quite as phenomenal as some people hoped.
  11. ZIPS projects Davis Schneider for 12.9 WAR from 2024 through 2027
  12. It's semantics but "generational" to me means just that - once in a generation. Maybe some career overlap with another unicorn. Mike Trout was a generational total package Ohtani is a generational talent You can argue that Pujols and Miggy were generational hit+power combinations. That's what people thought Vlad could be! It's not in there. Nope.
  13. You can tell from the contract that the Jays internal projections for IKF must be a bit higher than those on Fangraphs, but they don't have to be much higher. Atkins just got scared of the worst case Ontario at 3B and bought floor. Then got conned into giving the floor player a second year.
  14. I don't think we can really say this anymore. He's got elite physical tools, but it's not 80 hit 80 power like some people were dreaming about. Might be fringe 80 raw power (there are some guys who can hit higher maxEVs or avgEVs...) but the hit tool is clearly lower. Probably a 60? A true 70 hitter with pop does not get exploited like Vlad can get exploited. Mookie Betts doesn't have flaws and slumps like him.
  15. I lose sleep over this player 0 war, 0 war, 6 war, 3 war, 1 war + mostly bad anecdotes on top of the production, like horrible baserunning and pickoffs Why couldn't he have just been f***ing Pete Alonso? 3-4 WAR a year. Alonso has the same pop but at least two letter grades worse on the hit tool. Vlad would be a bitter hitter if he was a worse "hitter" and it is so f***ing annoying lmao.
  16. This the goof that messed with a bunch of gullible fans and heavily implied that a Soler signing was imminent?
  17. Always some spring injuries. He makes the team unless his stuff looks like s*** in spring
  18. Ross Stripling arc incoming
  19. No kidding. Wow. Although, it's the Ms so maybe Santos is the best reliever in baseball now
  20. Weird that his injury was not known Dude is getting put on top 100 lists meanwhile he had major career threatening surgery five months ago
  21. I don't think this info is accurate There was amateur data where his maxEVs were promising. I remember reading 110 mph at the time of the draft
  22. He's GOOD. Part of why the farm is rated a bit too low right is that a couple of the good prospects aren't scouting darlings. Roden, Schneider (graduated but you get it), Horwitz... Horwitz has a 2 WAR projection per full season by Steamer and ZIPS and everyone has a 40 FV on him. So the machine says 50 FV and the scouts have him a full tier below. I dunno. I like our prospects, Barry.
