  3. wait a minute Jeff Passan @JeffPassan Right-hander Gerrit Cole is remaining with the New York Yankees on the four-year, $144 million deal that he had opted out of, sources told ESPN. Discussions on a potential contract extension will continue. Essentially, it’s the same as if Cole did not opt out.
  4. Idiots.
  5. Maybe the likeliest outcome is the Yankees and Cole just figure out a new term entirely He opted out of 4/$144 Yankees have the option of doing 5/$180 Maybe they go to him and say "hey we will give you the $180 but we want to do it over 7 years" Might not make much difference to Cole. Odds are he is cooked or just a problematic injury prone dude at 39 anyway.
  6. Gerrit Cole is stupid but the Yankees just might be stupider
  7. Yes probably And that is the most annoying thing of this new trend. Juan Soto is going to want a "$60M AAV" even if the present value is $40M. In 5 years it will be out of hand. Cavan Biggio will sign for the major league minimum but defer it for 20 years so that the MLBTR headline is "Rays sign Craig Biggio's son to one year, $1.08M deal"
  8. Already has enough money When you are a DEMONSTRATED financial moron already, it makes sense to just willingly lock up money on yourself even if the return is not ideal.
  9. the only actual advantage the Dodgers have is that they are owned by a hedge fund so the owner in fact has $45M or whatever to set aside each year, which will grow into $70M because math
  10. Mostly agree with BTS. You can just find new prospects so don't get attached to Jobe, Lowder, Schultz. Berrios is an obvious cut here.
  11. Why is it so hard for you guys to understand that a $70M liability 10 years from now is not actually a $70M liability? Just look up what a 10 year treasury bond or 10 year GIC pays in annual interest. Throw that into a compound interest calculator for 10 years on say $45M. Then share your work!

  15. DO Volleyball style block at the wall Catch the ball if it is on the wall or over the wall DON'T Reach over the wall egregiously (if it's on top of the wall, fair play) Initiate contact with the players

That's weird No burst though So he has the agility or acceleration of a golem
  17. Game 1 was amazing Game 2 was decent as well. Yanks loaded the bases in the 9th and had a 27% win prob after the Rizzo HBP. Game 3 was boring. It was like Game 2 but with no excitement at the end. I wouldn't mind this going 6 games so there is some drama.
  18. I am enjoying this World Series immensely, I dunno what you guys are taking about Proud Canadian Freddie Freeman is going to be MVP and the goddamn Yankees are getting embarrassed.

The team is hilarious Everyone in the D side other than Rielly is a lug. They don't even play Liljegren for some reason and he actually has some skill. The entire 3rd and 4th lines are useless. They are rostering Max Pacioretty lol and giving him PP1 time. The goalies are just like, random AHL guys.

  23. He's the minor league pitching coordinator. I don't think that position is typically filled by someone with a sparkling resume. The last one, Cory Popham, was hired straight from "Post University" where was the pitching coach for 2 years. So Lehr has way more experience now than Popham had when he was hired: Before being the Giants’ pitching coordinator, Lehr worked for the Giants as their rehab pitching coordinator after working as an amateur scout for the Kansas City Royals organization. Following his playing career, Lehr was a professional scout for the Houston Astros until 2014 before joining the Royals.
  24. Yeah they have basically been the Blue Jays west
