  1. Kevin Towers is good. Here are some reasons why: Cliffs: "trading Kelly Johnson for Aaron Hill AND John McDonald" (note the emphasis on AND) "getting Brad Ziegler for (snigger) Brandon Allen and Jordan Norberto" (franchise changing) "dumping Chris Young and getting the cheaper, better Cliff Pennington back" (better?)
  2. He's a saber dogmatist to the core, but at least he plays it fast and loose with his numbers. There's nothing worse than a creepy crawly saber buddy who's always unsure of himself, qualifying every statement with a "possibly", "probably", "maybe", etc. (see: Dave Cameron, Me).
  3. Disagree. JPA goes oppo quite a bit. His HR park factor wouldn't be the same as the typical RHB HR park factor that you see on Fangraphs Guts page. (You filthy saber dogmatist.)
  4. Spanky, I think you need to go see a doctor.
  5. .270/.320/.400 This is the year!
  6. They'd have to love both players. I'm not particularly fond of either of them. I see Paxton as a probable RP with an erratic #3 ceiling. I think Chicago probably has their mind on something shinier. Although, Franklin is probably half way there. Not far off. Franklin-Paxton-Saunders for Shark and a reliever? I dunno. I think Chicago only moves Shark right now for an overpay in the Latos/Shields realm.
  7. On a corner I suppose. Deal Smoak, LoMo at first and Hart at DH. Ackley as bench depth. Bury Montero behind the backfield during spring and hope no-one asks questions.
  8. Probably none. Maybe some of the guys in competitions will show up. E.g., Jose Veras, Rex Brothers, Astros garbage, Putz.
  9. I know. You've said that like five times. Wait, how many prospects are you taking?
  10. The Rule 5 for us is basically going to be 75% holds dudes.
  11. These are my probable cuts. Feel free to sift through my trash: Zach McAllister Bud Norris Logan Morrison Welington Castillo Ryan Doumit Neal Cotts Jesse Crain Jason Hammel Joel Peralta Felipe Paulino Charlie Blackmon Jose Alvarez Might keep Bud, LoMo, or Castillo though. Still not 100% decided on spots 19/20.
  12. looks like we just need jaysblue and kingkat to sign up. Not that there's a big rush or anything. Cutdown deadline is still Feb 16th, waiver draft to start about 1 week after that (maybe 2).
  13. Just Missed The Cut: Daniel Norris, LHP, Blue Jays An athletic left-hander with above-average stuff that can miss bats, Norris belonged on the top 101 and there is no way around it. While it’s true that his command woes at present could end up being a long-term hindrance to his ultimate upside, the delivery is actually pretty smooth and his athleticism and overall feel point to a brighter future on the command front. He was as high as no. 80 on a few rough drafts, but slowly trickled down the list before falling off completely so that a few high ceiling/high risk types could get their day in the sun. As much as they belonged, their inclusion shouldn’t have come at the expense of Norris. As far as I’m concerned, this is a top 101 talent. 6 FB; 6 SL; 5+ CH
  14. This is actually hilarious. Gold.
  15. Doesn't it always? Home opener is some weird, independent event in Toronto for some reason.
  16. If the Blue Jays actually decide to stand pat at this point, it will be a PR disaster.
  17. He's a 1 win player with a bit of sell high potential. s***** team like Houston should be all over him for 3 mil. They can probably get him lots of reps between 3b and the corner outfield spots, and if he plays well they can try to work him into some sort of midseason package to a contender. Kansas City is f***ing weird. Must have a maxed out payroll, only explanation.
  18. Anyone interested in Daniel Nava or Jon Villar?
  19. Meh. It's not like 2b is more difficult - it's just different. Maybe he can pull it off. Nothing to lose. Probably doesn't matter anyway.
  20. Players who hate Toronto: Beltran Sanchez Kinsler Anderson
  21. I agree. Kind of interesting that we never see deals like that. I guess it's because any old vet good enough to command such a lofty AAV would probably be more focused on getting the longest deal possible. These old fogeys like Beltran really seem to treasure their two or three year end of career deals. Guaranteed jobs.
  22. the mods, in addition to being pussies, are apparently sucky idiots.
  23. And no mention of the numerous domestic, "proven" commodities that have flamed out shortly after inking big money free agent contracts or extensions. I mean, it's not like Barry Zito didn't sign his Giants contract in the same offseason that Dice K came over.
