  1. Tomorrow's game is an interesting matchup: Norris v Anthony DeSclafani
  2. I am actually pretty excited for these Montreal games. I love this new tradition. Hopefully next year they aren't even exhibition games.
  3. Same arbitrator could potentially have a Kris Bryant inspired MLBPA grievance on his hands some time soon too
  4. They're not though. MLB wanted to bring down the hammer, it went to an arbitrator and MLB lost. Then MLB got a little dig in after the fact and said that they will look to make changes to the CBA as a result. Not cool as f***!
  5. On the flip side, he's never actually done ^ that in his career, he doesn't have big upside, and he's 36. Probably closer to 50th than 25th
  6. Because cheating and relapsing are not the same thing?
  7. Three of my players got demoted Good thing I didn't hang on to NA stash AJ Cole
  8. More than that, you want your top picks to be safe investments. Also, no pitchers contribute in every category and some hitters do!
  9. Correct but wRC+ is a close 2nd.
  10. Cool, Jeff Moore is a good writer. Sportsnet continues to add solid baseball writing talent.
  11. BALCO Pharm team drops Burch Smith for Erasmo Ramirez. The ultimate North move. I predict that add/drop or vice versa will happen multiple times this season.
  12. smart cookie. That's like a PR professional power move there.
  13. Because he's a Yankee. It's a bit different!
  14. Really? Donaldson is a modern student of the game.
  15. Josh Donaldson: <3
  16. Betances sitting ~94 today, touching 96. He just threw a FB at 91, which is possibly lower than any single FB he threw last season (minimum 91.5). Sat 96.7 last season and touched 100.4. Still has the wicked knuckle curve and the velocity is still comfortably above average, so who knows how much it will affect his performance. Or maybe he's one of the dudes who "warms up" quite a bit as the season progresses.
  17. He tore his rotator cuff in 2011 and could never come back. Shame, because he peaked as a pretty nasty LOOGY (who could also get RHB out) and with that delivery from the left side he probably could have pitched until he was 40 if the arm didn't give. Poor guy barely made $1M in his career!
  18. Looks like Jeff is finally.... Hoff the schneid. *kills self
  19. BTS will love this. He covets Doubront.
  20. Well.... the truth it out there. Simple google search top 3 hits: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3445126/ http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3435945/ http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S2095254612000427 Learn what all of the obtuse biomechanics language means and then dive into Google Scholar!
  21. Enough players have played baseball and had surgery at this point that you can certainly correlate the presence of certain things with injury risk. That's a huge job though. Most of it is in-house, I think. Not sure if there's anything publicly available like that. I don't actually know what any of the indicators are. You're right that it's hogwash a lot of the time. People will just pick a guy's delivery apart with pictures after he gets hurt and say - "look at those high elbows - I told you so!". But the one thing that it has going for it is sensibility.
  22. Buehrle is basically the model. You want that arm cocked (upright), hand and forearm pointed toward the corner base at foot plant, and you don't want a stiff front leg. But really the problem isn't the arm action itself. A pitcher can have an ugly Inverted W and still get to where Buehrle is at the critical moment. The messy arm actions just lead to an increased likelihood that a guy's timing will be off when it matters. They are like proxy measures, because most of the time there is no high speed camera of a guy's motion. But there's a reason that people do the "tricks". They increase stress on the arm/elbow/shoulder, and that stress can = more velocity! Guys (coaches) can trade a bit of health for a bit of velocity, in theory, sort of. Also this isn't science and you're talking about increases in % chance of getting hurt - pitching at all, even with perfect form, is unnatural and dangerous.
