  1. GB tendencies are seemingly very hard to get rid of permanently Remember Christian Yelich, perhaps MLB's biggest groundball loser of the last 10 years, seemingly fixed his woes for one year in 2019, hit 44 homers, but then went right back to slapping everything on the ground? I doubt he has ever really tried to "fix" it though. He probably thinks there is nothing wrong with his approach.
  2. LOLperfido is the new Derek Fisher I guess
  3. The Boston broadcasters were pointing out Bloss's velo on air. They weren't doing that with any other SP as far as I remember. If the gun was hot you think they would have been gushing about their own guys.
  4. What flavour of crack were we smoking when this chart was created? Scenario Vlad Wanted A Reasonable Deal Vlad Wanted Too Much Jays Made a Reasonable Offer A fantasy land where we get to be happy. Jays have to get creative, but a deal probably gets done. Jays Lowballed Vlad A deal probably gets done We are here? What does "Jays have to get creative but a deal probably gets done" even mean if the premise is Vlad wants too much? The text in two of these boxes is hilarious and wrong. The chart should be illustrating that to extend at this juncture both sides need to be reasonable parties, otherwise there is never a deal. I dunno how you could see a deal happening with one party acting unreasonable. Here is the deal on the Vlad negotiations... We have a pretty big sample size on how the Toronto Blue Jays present front office handle negotiations with players and free agents. What they seem to do is cast their net widely, evaluate all alternatives, make an assessment on all options, explore big money free agents if their assessment is competitive, stay patient until their assessment lines up with a target's actual market or desires. We have a tiny sample on how Vlad will handle contracts and negotiations. Some statements about him being the best there is. Some irresponsible social media likes about him signing with the Yankees or Red Sox. So I really don't think we are in the "Jays Lowballed + Vlad wants too much" box. More likely in the top right box. Why? Because the Jays historically make a "reasonable offer" on f***ing everybody. They are so "reasonable" that it makes us want to throw up sometimes. Who is more likely to be acting unreasonably? The guy with 17 kids at 25 years old, who still can't run the bases, and doesn't know when to not click like on Instagram? Or the executive who takes a paper towel and dabs the fat off of his turkey bacon every other Sunday when he treats himself?
  5. https://x.com/ShiDavidi/status/1893733845347741987?t=T5FC-5_rBrSykEWXElae2Q&s=19
  6. Bloss is having trouble throwing strikes but the stadium gun has him throwing 97/98
  7. We basically know Vlad's demands because of the David Ortiz comments. That's probably a direct leak. He wanted $585 million. It's such a stupid ask that it doesn't even matter what Toronto offered on the other side.
  8. Reminder that the Jays lost that game 2-0 The pitching plan worked fine, generally speaking Also with the clarity of another season, the decision makes more sense. Kikuchi is a way better SP at this point, with better stuff, and he out-projects Berrios now. Even in 2023 he was better than Berrios in many key indicators. So they wanted to swap JB out for a better pitcher and stuck to that plan.
  9. Does anyone else think the FA market cratered much more than usual as we head into spring training? Seems like there are FAs taking minor league deals who would have gotten MLB contracts in prior years. Also guys signing for much less money than expected. Like Andrew Heaney, signing for $5M, was projected for 2/$25M...

    NHL Thread

US has better depth, better goalies, and probably better D Canada has the two best players though Canada *probably* f***ed up their team in typical Canadian international fashion by not focusing enough on pure talent or by giving too much thought to old players. Some of the D-men are head scratchers. I used to love Drew Doughty but f*** man, he is 35 and just back from a big injury did he really need a spot? Weegar and Bouchard should have made this team. As a Bruins fan, Marchand is a bit too washed for this and Canada certainly could have done better with his roster spot. Hard to comment on every roster spot but it just seems like there must have been better options for some of the 3rd and 4th lines.
  11. that is a bummer, I liked them, but I totally get it
  12. 1 WAR divided by 6.5 WAR = 15.4% 15.4% of 765M = $117.81M THEREFOR AND IN CONCLUSION BY USING THE SOTO VLAD LOGIC A ONE WAR BASEBALL PLAYER DESERVES A $117.81 MILLION DOLLAR CONTRACT
  13. LMAO okay now go back and read my post where I said "so is a 1 WAR player worth $117.69 million?" Do you get it yet? Do you know what linear means?
  14. Oh you listen to the radio You're a real radio scout my apologies, Mr. Radio man
  15. So is a 1 WAR player worth $117.69 million? That's how it works right? Someone needs to slap Vlad with a fish and tell him and his agent that this s*** is not linear and superstar players capable of 8+ WAR seasons enter a different planet of calculations entirely. Compare deez.
  16. wait wait wait hold up hold up do you think this was actually george springer?
  17. This seems made up. I mean all of the references to "repercussions" or "pissing him off" or they were "scared to do it" or even the "potential blowback" being part of the thought process at all. They probably took so long to move him down because he still projected well and they didn't want to overreact and just thought it best to leave him in his usual spot.
  18. Might have more to do with teams not trusting Adames' bat to age gracefully + the swing and miss limiting his ceiling. Seager would have been (correctly) seen as a more sound hitter fundamentally, with actual 6 win upside. So in that respect I am not sure Bo comps to him exactly. I mean it's a .290/.330 hitter with 25 HR power vs a .290/.360 hitter with 30 HR power. But we know the band of contracts for sure. The Jays might keep him around for Adames money and Bo probably thinks he can approach Seager money with a strong 2025. There are other data points like the Boogers deal being a lemon which might make teams hesitant on the big 10/$300M template. Swanson is another possible comp. Really no shortage of long term SS contract comps....
  19. Corey Seager for 10/$325 from Texas. He was a FA entering his age 28 season. An offense first SS without an amazing defensive reputation (many thought he was too big for the position, breaking in) and some injury history. I am not saying that Bo Bichette is worth 10/$300M but why should Bo Bichette do anything other than try to have a 5 WAR year and target that kind of deal? I wonder what the Jays would even have to offer right now for him to come to the table...
  20. ZIPS TOP 100 was good to the Blue Jays. Tied for 4th place both in top 100 prospects and top 500 prospects. This confirms suspicions that Ross Atkins does nothing but pull up Fangraphs and look at projected fWAR. 21. Probably missed the offseason window to trade him. Go for it, sell at deadline if they suck. If they are on the bubble at the deadline some tough decisions will need to be made. Worst case scenario could unfold, where they keep everyone and miss the postseason.
  22. But why would any of those teams have evaluations of Vlad that differ from Toronto's?
