I'm sure they've thought about it. Problem with stretching out Osuna this year is that he probably can't throw more than half a season out of the rotation. Severe lack of innings the last few years.
But I'd love to see it happen even if there is an eventual date where he has to go back to the pen.
Apparently Gibby was on Blair this morning and hinted that his leash may be close to up.
Blair: "Putting two-and-two together, I think we're gonna see Sanchez back in the bullpen, maybe by the end of the homestand."
I expect Norris and Hutch to pitch a lot better going forward.
Martin doesn't seem comfortable doing anything right now (except throwing), which might be influencing the pitchers a little bit. I think Russ is putting a bit too much pressure on himself early on, or something intangible like that.
Maybe if some stupid team keeps swinging at balls, or he rides an insane amount of BABIP luck for a game. I highly doubt we'll see Sanchez completely shut down a decent lineup on his own accord this season.
Tolleson or Valencia vs a RHP would still be much better than Goins, probably.
Not to mention, Boxberger has a wicked changeup and probably has reverse splits.
small sample size but career against Boxberger:
RHB .314 wOBA
LHB .248 wOBA
Honestly there's no excuse for letting Goins hit in that situation. Just an ignorant manager and, more importantly, an ignorant team that doesn't care about the small things.
Overall, take this start as a positive for him. Held his velocity all night and at least avoided hard contact. This is probably the guy we see all year, unless he improves.
At least the Sanchez from tonight could play as a #5 SP. Baltimore Sanchez was 92/93 mph garbage
