    Agreed on Phillips,but he does have the ability to post a 4-5 WAR season,where that is extremely unlikely with Infante. There is also no comparison defensively speaking,as Phillips is a solid defender. Don't know how much weight can be applied to him being a clubhouse cancer.

    I was all for signing Infante last month,when i thought he could be had for 2/19 or 3/22-24. AA would also have to find a trade partner for Izturis in this case,as paying Izzy $4M to be a bench player makes no sense. After his horrible 2013,AA would be hard pressed in getting any value for him. I would love an Infante / Goins combo at 2B, but not for 4/40.

    That's because upgrading the SP is a bigger priority than upgrading 2B, unless it was with Cano or Phillips, Kinsler types,or possibly in a trade for Profar. Spending $10-12M per on a second baseman like Infante is f***ing ridiculous. He plays an average defense also,so WTF?

    Whats so funny? Steamer has Infante at .288 / .325 and Izturis at .257 / .316. So are trying to tell me that that tiny projected increase is worth an extra $6M per season x 4? I'd rather use that $6M per season towards signing Garza or some other starter or to be used on Tanaka's salary (if we win the bidding).

    AA is banking on Izzy to bounce back to his career norms ( .270 / .330 ) at $4M per. Those are exactly identical to Infante's career stats (.279 / .320 ) Pass..

    WTF for when Izturis will give you basically the same numbers at $4M per season. Infante can gfh if he thinks someone will offer him a 4/32 type deal. Izturis will be back to his career numbers, the culture shock has worn off. Izturis / Goins combo at 2B in 2014. Book it.

    Meh.. The Yanks are still old and injury prone, while their middle infield defense is s***. Starting pitching outside of CC and maybe Kuroda is soft. Mr. Automatic Rivera is also gone.

    Unless AA lands an impact 2B, you can count on an Izturis / Goins combo at 2B. I think AA would rather roll with the AAS of $3M with Izturis and hope he bounces back to his career .270 / .331 numbers than sign Infante (career .279 / .319) who has pretty much identical numbers , but will probably get $6-8M per next year. I just hope the old AA is back and told old man Beeston to GFH. The Lincoln for Kratz / Rasmussen deal and Navarro signing was a good start. I'm optimistic Izturis will bounce back offensively, and Goins can be our late inning defensive replacement specialist. The defense up the middle has upgraded massively with the additions of Navarro/Kratz with Goins at 2B when defending a late inning lead.

    LOL.. We'll see how Goins works out, and i mean that in a BENCH ROLE. I say he works out to be one of the better back up middle infielders in baseball.

    This trade is worse. The Marlins trade were full of prospects that will probably never pan out to be impact MLB players. Yunel hurt us and Hech will probably be a good NL bench player. The others will amount to nothing.

    This is so f***ed up. So lets say he has a decent year in San Diego. Are GM's going to line up and pay big bucks for his services based on pitching in San Diego? I think times are changing and i don't think GMs are as quick to sign the JJ types. JJ and his agent will be disappointed this time next year.

    Just sign Infante along with AAA depth and have Goins on the bench. Shut down middle infield defense combined with a high baseball IQ is more valuable than i think you realize. This team desperately needs these types. Signing a better hitting infield bench role type will not provide more value than the defense Goins will bring. Why spend more money on a lateral move depth wise at best? I'd love to land Phillips in a trade but we all know that Sanchez or Stroman would have to be involved. f*** that.

    Why are you so hell bent on not giving Goins a shot? Because Steamer says so? I'm not a pro scout or something but I've been watching the game long enough to know that Goins has a decent approach at the plate and with the right coaching (hopefully Seitzer) he can put up a 80-90 wRC + to go along with his defense. I have a hard on for the guy because I see the potential and it would be fun to watch him succeed in the show. f***, he's better than Manny Lee.

    How about Ryan Goins? Why not sign a decent defending middle infielder to a AAA contract to provide depth and keep Goins on the 25 man?
