    Yeah I don’t like this at all, and i’d assume most of the other owners sans Cohen/Steinbrenner will hate this too. What’s even the point of the luxury tax if there’s “loopholes” and deferrals. Small market teams don’t even stand a chance unless they can develop elite talent consistently.

    The calculated luxury tax hit should be based on the FULL contract amount. Ohtani did not sign for 550 million, he signed for 700 million.

    Thanks for stating what I was too frustrated to put into words. The luxury tax exists as a competitive balance measure for the sport. Idgaf how real world accounting works, thats not the point.
