    Yeah the most frustrating thing about all this is that when you try to argue why its shady/problematic, people immediately assume it’s because you don’t understand the numbers or don’t understand accounting. Fact of the matter is, we haven’t seen any other team take advantage of deferrals nearly as much as the Dodgers have these past 2 years. I am very interested to see if the Soto deal is also a ballooned fugazi with 200 million in deferrals. And if other teams aren’t doing it… then why? Why do the Dodgers stand alone here?

    I’d still expect this to be a major point of contention in the next CBA negotiations. Owners will want to get rid of it because the contracts are starting to balloon out of control, but the players will want to keep it. Whether you like it or not, whether you agree with it or not, the Dodgers are getting away with having a smaller number on the books for luxury tax calculations. That’s an indisputable fact. I know its been “part of the rules all along”, but no team has leveraged this loophole nearly as much as the Dodgers the past couple offseasons.

    I think it'll happen. It will just be more like an Aaron Judge scenario where the Jays match/exceed the highest bid in free agency. Rogers needs a face of franchise and wont allow Vlad to be poached. The casuals love him.

    If the Jays managed to sign Soto, i feel it would also force the Yankees to respond by handing out a bunch of potentially bad contracts to guys like Bregman, Adames, Snell, etc.

    Yea but still, Stipe hasn’t had a fight in 4 years and that fight ended with him getting sent to the shadow realm. Easy W for Jones in all likelihood

    And we get yet another stupid fight (albeit less stupid than that boxing circus) tonight with Jon Jones vs a 50 yr old Stipe that hasn’t fought in like 4 years. Pretty sure everyone wants Stipe to win but knows it will be Jones.

    Bautista also had a much better track record of sustained success. Anyways yeah the comparison isn’t perfect, but my point is that if Vlad is demanding the moon right now then we might as well wait til he’s a free agent. The whole point of an extension is that there’s risk on both sides. Right now its seeming like Vlad wants free agent dollars.

    I honestly don’t give a f***. Give me a competitive team and a championship over sentimental BS like signing Vlad 4 lyfe. Imagine if AA had caved to Bautista’s outrageous demands that time in 2016. I see Vlad as a similar landmine/potential disaster.

    Right. As it stands, we don’t know what number has been offered by the Jays. If they’re offering 200 mil then that’s too low and makes sense why Vlad is passing. If they’ve offered him 300 and he’s still not accepting, then f*** him

    Right I agree with this, the problem is that I think Vlad is way overvaluing himself right now. What’s market value? Because I don’t think Vlad should get over 300. But maybe for him, the number is 400. This may just need to play out in free agency next year

    We know Bo isn’t signing here, and he was atrocious last season. Trade value at an all-time low, might as well let him go beastmode for the FA contract. Vlad clearly isn’t giving the Jays a discount. You either extend him for market value, or wait til he’s a free agent. Could trade him, but the fans would absolutely hate it. And his value was probably highest last deadline and they decided to hold him so I don’t see a trade coming. Again, this isn’t necessarily the course I would take. But the front office has made it clear they want to compete in 2025. If you can’t extend them you just keep them and let them play out the year.
