Sure, I can see there being an adjustment on some of the finer details of the position, but I can't see that being a determining factor in Valera getting the call over Smith. If you believe in someone's glove at SS you have to imagine that the transition can be made on the fly. I also bet Semien would be the first to admit that many of his other qualities played up at 2B. It's so much easier to throw from 2B than it is in the hole.
