  1. I just assumed he was dead after reports of another setback. This is great news.
  2. Like I said this doesn't add anything to the conversation. Most people are cognizant of the fact that pitching prospects are volatile. You are not introducing new or interesting information.
  3. The problem is that this kind of commentary doesn't add anything to the conversation. I personally enjoy hearing about prospects I'm not familiar with.
  4. It's hard to reconcile with the fact that we essentially traded Josh Donaldson for nothing.
  5. Vlad has hit several balls to the warning track and wall the past two weeks with nothing to show for it. Eventually those are going to fall in for hits or go over.
  6. I'm not sure I've ever seen a manager who makes as many bullpen decisions that don't work out as Montoyo.
  7. Well that was ideal.
  8. Sure, I can see there being an adjustment on some of the finer details of the position, but I can't see that being a determining factor in Valera getting the call over Smith. If you believe in someone's glove at SS you have to imagine that the transition can be made on the fly. I also bet Semien would be the first to admit that many of his other qualities played up at 2B. It's so much easier to throw from 2B than it is in the hole.
  9. Respectfully, I've never heard of a SS having a tough time adjusting to 2B.
  10. Smith is said to be a competent or better glove at SS so I imagine he would be plus at 2B.
  11. I can understand that part of it, but why not start Smith over Valera when Biggio went down? Is handedness really that big of a factor? It may be, I'm just thinking out loud.
  12. I'm probably overthinking this, but apart of me wonders if maybe the Jays aren't as high on Smith as the numbers would suggest they are. I know Espinal is rolling, but I don't really understand the wisdom in not giving Smith a shot with Biggio down and now Lopez is being promoted over him.
  13. This game could be over fast. Berrios can't throw any of his pitches over the plate.
  14. Fatigue and injury are definitely common factors, another one is mechanical. You would be amazed how often pro hitters who have been swinging their entire lives unknowingly change one aspect of their swing or approach which can lead to struggles at the plate. It's why these guys drill the same mechanics day after day.
  15. Getting up after sliding without using your hands is really f***ing hard. He made that s*** look easy.
  16. I think everyone is overthinking this. Vlad is just cold right now, that will happen over a 162 game season. Most players lose their swings far more frequently than this.
  17. Kirk will get into the second game of the double header.
  18. My god, if the Jays get healthy they can run some absolutely electric arms out of their pen: Jordan Romano Julian Merryweather Nate Pearson Brad Hand Adam Cimber Tim Mayza Trevor Richards Joakim Soria Rafael Dolis
  19. Do we know this for sure though? I know Eno Sarris or some other scout mentioned it once off-hand, but when did the injury start and when did it end? Did his exit velo rebound etc.
  20. It's not assumptions though, it's scouts who are voicing these concerns and backing up the talk by lowering Martin in their rankings. It's also telling that the Jays allegedly did not rank Martin in their internal top 3 or 4 prospects. This doesn't mean that Martin sucks, but it is fair to say that his perceived ceiling is not the same as a year ago.
  21. Why is the industry so low on Kevin Smith? Am I missing something because from what I've read Smith grades out as an average or better defensive middle infielder with potential for plus power and a fringe average hit tool. How is that not top 10 in our system?
  22. Perhaps against the Yankees, but I don't see us catching the Rays in any event so I wouldn't mind them losing to them. Also, I just want no part of the Rays in a wild card format.
