  1. I suggest moving Gregg Zaun to the unemployment line.
  2. I don't think that's a realistic possibility. I just can't imagine voters looking past a sub-2 ERA from a starter.
  3. Goins gets an A for Alomar-esque.
  4. It's true that it's hard to have a disastrous season such as this without anyone taking the fall, but I'm not sure it would be good optics to let Gibbons go. It would look like AA is giving up on the current model, but also he had the memorable quote (paraphrased) last year that hiring Gibbons was "the most sure he's been about any of his moves". It will probably just be a coach or two that get sacrificed. Hard to imagine Pete Walker sticking around.
  5. He's 20. Not everyone can be Mike Trout.
  6. Clinchage? Sounds painful.
  7. Reds win. Major choke job by the Pirates wastes a very good start from Liriano.
  8. Quite the twist ending on this game.
  9. Votto home run!
  10. Travis Snider sighting...come on, hit the walk-off homer. Nah he just popped out.
  11. Tense game going on Pittsburgh right now. Reds just came back from 5-2 to tie it in the ninth against Mark Melancon, after Jordy Mercer extended the game with a two out error.
  12. It's possible but I'm not sure. He was definitely a big JPA booster. Also big on Romero. His opinions didn't tend to work out well.
  13. Damnit Boxy, I should report you for linking a thread that contained posts from DJBluRay. Also, who else misses RIPEXPOS? Anyone?
  14. There's no way Donaldson is getting MVP votes; nobody is even sure what his first name is. http://wapc.mlb.com/play/?content_id=30713281&topic_id=vtp_mm_wrapup&query=donaldson
  15. Love how he just dismisses WAR as a flawed stat in favour of OPS (supplemented of course by his superior baseball mind and "because I say so" logic).
  16. For once I envy Cubs fans; their announcers are great. They just spent a whole half inning discussing the WAR leaders and Trout vs. Cabrera.
  17. Well, I have no delusions about getting a star or impact players for second base, when I say "definite upgrade" I mean someone who is likely to provide around league average production. Maybe Ian Kinsler becomes available (provided we even have the pieces to acquire that kind of player) but I'd be fine with a Mark Ellis type. I mean, I was fine with Izturis, but sometimes things just go wrong, and now he looks pretty cooked. It just can't be Ryan Goins, a player that any reasonable projection would have as replacement level, not to mention the optics of it all.
  18. Well Sierra is batting 5th, and Esmil Rogers is batting 9th, but at least JPA is sitting.
  19. This is an important point. Goins is an unacceptable option because this team is far past the point where they can afford to give players like Ryan Goins a shot and hope they exceed expectations. There needs to be definite upgrade at 2B and if AA fails to acquire that and goes with Goins, then that's just what he's done: failed. If you're going to be all-in, then be all-in. Even if (maybe) replacement level would be an improvement over this year's options, it's still REPLACEMENT LEVEL.
  20. Of course we're not going to have a 9-10 WAR player on the bench. The only position you can reasonably expect that kind of value from is the closer.
  21. Okay, that Dirk and Gregg argument there was pretty hilarious.
  22. WHAT, Bonifacio second!? This is the worst thing ever. Also, Aaron Harang: very unattractive person but I do like his name.
  23. Was just noticing this as well; he's become a very nice well-rounded player. The crop of AL third basemen is quite deep this year.
