    True, but we are talking about IKF who hits lefties and righties roughly equally and derives most of his value from D. By all means, if the Jays sign Chapman, IKF is a bench bat. If there is no better 3B option, IKF should be the primary 3B and that would max out his value.

    I responded to your post because of this: As long as IKF is not a negative WAR player, the more he sits on the bench, the less he is worth his contract. If you are referring to total player investment, and optimal player usage, that's not clear from what you wrote.

    he's not a negative asset, the more he plays the higher the ROI he's suited for the bench, but that requires a better 3B option the IFK signing is probably both as a bench bat and insurance if the Jays strike out on Chapman or other 3B option

    I don't think $300M is correct, there's no way. The number is probably closer to $200M. Problem for the Jays is the closer he gets to FA without an extension, the harder to sign. Which is why I said, if he shoves this year, sign him to a reasonable deal. His conditioning efforts this offseason probably has more to do with his pending potential free agency than anything else.

    Reasonable expectation should be Hinske ish, which is perfectly fine. He could be better, could be worse. The worry has to be he has a lengthy slump, unable to adjust to what the pitchers are exploiting, and gets demoted.

    Trout doesn't come close to Ohtani in name value. He should, but for a lot of reasons he doesn't. His name value is far closer to Bellinger than it is to Ohtani.
