  1. No such law saying they have to be called up, but there are laws that may apply related to suppression of earning potential. It's actually not hard to show this in some of these cases. If the club waits til 3rd week of April to call up a player, after said player demolished AAA the previous season, any reasonable observer would..... etc Remember, civil actions are not subject to the innocent until proven guilty threshold. Balance of probabilities.....
  2. so now its AA vs Shatkins debate? I'll take the Indians last 10 years over Jays last 10 years, easy
  3. Depends on the term of the deal. No one here is speaking in absolutes. Martin has value to the 2019 Jays, but it is possible a proposed deal with another club will eclipse that value.
  4. Not necessarily meaningless. A CBA does not override the law, including case law.
  5. Skill development is not linear, otherwise projections would be far more accurate than they are. What is it, like 50% of MLB regulars never sniffed the BA top 100? Just as much of a factor as swing changes and the MLB ball is mental approach - particularly for hitters. Look at a guy like EE, who went from a mediocre to elite hitter seemingly overnight in 2012 by improving his plate discipline.
  6. It's not that. It's how the best looking of the Brewers circle has bad acne that not even layers of makeup can hide.

  8. Kershaw looks so average now....
  9. I am sure Shatkins is evaluating that route. Problem is, at this point in time the prospects would be very marginal. While trading JD last offseason after his monster 2017 2nd half would have been the right move, the reverse is true for Martin. Rather than trade him now with salary retained for a couple of marginal prospects, better bet is to keep him and bet on a 2019 resurgence and make him available at the deadline for less retained salary and a higher return. His BABIP is not likely going to be .234 in 2019.
  10. Martin was very unlucky this year. .234 BABIP, well below his .283 career mark. He gets his career BABIP, he's a 2 WAR player. He'd be a good pick for a nice bounce back year in 2019. Plus he can play multiple positions. Trading him for a couple of low level prospects and retaining $16M is a bad move.
  11. You might want to take a look at Martin's 2018 BABIP and OBP before making that bet. It is highly unlikely McGuire outhits Martin, regardless of the metric used.
  12. One thing about AFL, it is known as a hitter's league.
  13. whoa, that pitch was nasty
  14. Where do you get 5 full seasons from. His first full season as a pro was 2015. He's had 4 pro seasons with a fair bit of time lost to injury in 2017, and he wasn't 100% the 1st half of 2018.

Agreed he's playing like a 3rd pairing, 10 minutes a game guy. Leafs need to move Nylander for a top 4 d man. They don't need his one dimensional offensive game.

  17. f*** off, *******
  18. she did, in one eye
  19. Not only, but why sign FA RP or trade assets for RP for 2019? It's not the time. Plenty of arms to roster a BP and run guys up from Buffalo as needed. Give guys like Harris exposure from the BP when an extra arm is needed.
  20. Booked my accommodation for the Open at St Andrews in 2021
  21. Nah, throw him in the bullpen, abuse his arm
  22. I wouldn't worry too much about the 2019 bullpen.
  23. We are positive a pitcher that will be 27 1/2 years old when making his MLB debut, after recovering for over a year from TJS, has more value than a 75-80 range MiLB pick? The question has to be solidly in the grey zone, there is no clear answer. What may have swung it for the Jays was the possibility of JD accepting the QO, and based on what they know of his injury risk, concern of another lost season.
  24. You obviously did, liar!
