  1. Right, but again, but if the tax dollars are not spent on a new stadium, or people spend their money on other options, that too generates employment, etc and contributes to the "speed of money" or the rate at which money changes hands. If the tax dollars are not allocated to a new stadium, it gets allocated to say, roads and sewer construction which also generates employment, etc. And I would say there is a greater public benefit using the money to renew roads and sewers then there is from a new stadium to replace the Rogers Centre.
  2. Yes there would be an argument for Toronto to invest. The city would realize a return on the investment.
  3. But the money would be spent, right, generating economic activity?
  4. Wrong, the money spent to travel to Toronto, stay at a hotel, and eat at restaurants would more likely be spent on alternative travel / entertainment plans. There is no incremental economic benefit to the public by having the Blue Jays in Toronto. Any economic benefit is to the Blue Jays employees and players and Rogers corporate. If there are tax dollars spent to build a new stadium, it would be for political reasons, with the 'economic benefit justification' being a sham.
  5. And about 90% of that money from Ontarians / Canadians. And the money wouldn't be spent, otherwise? Of course it would be. That's the fallacy of these types of arguments.
  6. Agree with #2. For #1, agree with the date but suggest for 2021 only, we defer the draft to early March. Reason - the IFA signing period starts Jan 15, and the IFAs would be the primary focus for the 2021 NPD. We already picked over the 2020 Rule 4 draftees. Most IFAs would be signed by early March?
  7. I need to divest, not add. Realmuto would be nice though.
  8. Who needs an SP? I need to move 1 of Fried, Gausman, Valdez, or Taillon.
  9. BTS with 5 SP/RP taking the vulture approach.
  10. Need league context but I would tend to hold on Seager. These trades usually in the consolidators (whoever gets Seager) favour.
  11. I'll check my team for any weaknesses.
  12. That would suck. Throw the book at him!
  13. If he was trying to lose weight during the season, and he did, noticeably, that may have had an impact on his performance. I'm expecting great things from Vlad in 2021 if he comes to camp in good shape.
  14. Those are Hurl's words, mate. The rules of engagement. If they don't apply, let me know so I can let connorp know what I really think of him.
  15. Not personal attacks, got it. "Responses to posts are still encouraged. However, responses in which you are referencing the poster are not. If you can’t refute the post without any form of personal comment at a poster, do not respond."
  16. In the last few hours you've accused me of racism and called Spanky a wanker. Not allowed, mate.
  17. No, I'm not convinced SWR will be an ace, where did you get that idea, he's more likely a mid-rotation guy. 2022 is when I expect the Jays will compete with the TBR, CWS, LAD of the world. If they somehow sign Bauer and Springer this offseason, that timeline becomes next season.
  18. 7 of the top 20 SP in 2020 were FA signings. The most common way for a team to get a #1 is from within. It would be nice to sign Bauer, the only #1 out there, but it's not a necessity.
  19. Every offer will have conditions and / or expiry
  20. You sure make some liberal interpretations.
  21. Really, how? This is common everywhere, using a kid as a bargaining chip.
  22. Probably, they demanded money in order to turn over the kid for the day.
  23. Yes but as usual the Rays have help coming from the farm. McKay, McClanahan, Ryan. They will find a way.
  24. Astros are not looking good if Springer goes, Verlander shelved, Yuli getting old, etc. Right now their OF is Tucker, McCormick, and Straw. Farm is ranked 28th.
  25. Strange, without an in-house replacement unless Aledmys. Maybe they have a deal in principle with a guy like Didi or someone.
