    No impact on his confidence. You tell him (1) temporary, (2) designed to limit his innings given his limited usage in 2020.

    Not drastic. A way of limiting his innings and giving him a higher chance of success, gaining confidence. And it's temporary. Glasnow was a bulk pitcher.

    Fernandez had knee surgery at age 16 and again in 1987 a few years into his Blue Jays career. By the time he was 28 his defensive stats nosedived and cost him ~1-2 WAR a year.

    Yes, and it's amazing on that rock hard turf at Exhibition Stadium that Tony Fernandez put up the numbers he did. Same turf that wrecked his knees.

    Let's call it turf and positioning, blame the former on the Dome and the latter on Cito Gaston.

    JD is best parked in Buffalo (or wherever the Jays AAA team will be in 2021), available in case of injury.

    There must be a flaw in the formula. Alomar was regarded as a top defensive 2B - 10 gold gloves. I wonder if the astroturf at the Dome at the time, crazy fast, dampened his chances and the algorithm doesn't account for it.

    Not saying he would be the everyday center fielder. He would be a swiss army knife player.

    Likelihood is like 95% Kim will make an easy transition and be above average in CF, with his skill set. The Jays did not make the comment that they value his ability to play all across the diamond flippantly. They have more information than we do including the positions he has played in the past in Korea, which may include OF.

    He would be CF/OF/2B/SS/3B. As I have said, where he predominantly plays depends on the other moves this offseason.

    I doubt we see Martin with the big club in 2021. Only way that happens is injuries, IMO. Like the injuries that got Soto to the big leagues before he was 20. Your post explains why versatility matters. Groshans could demolish A+, AA, and more than hold his own in AAA in 2021. If you bring in Kim to play all over the diamond, yes including CF, and have versatility with your other players such as Biggio, you can fit Groshans (or whoever) onto the club at the expense of the 26th man whoever that is.

    Right and in my original post from a few weeks ago had Kim in CF and Lindor at SS. The Jays have stated they value Kim's ability to play all over the diamond (this was on Sportsnet). Getting Lindor does not close the door on Kim.

    Look at Ketel Marte (quite similar to Kim in stature and athleticism) in 2019, provided more defensive value in CF then he did at 2B/SS. Although those numbers cratered in 2020 along with the rest of his game. You play your players to best position the team to win. I wouldn't discount the Jays signing Kim and seeing him play significant innings as the best available option for CF, depending on how the rest of the offseason goes.

    I never said only middle IF can transition to the OF, Grant. I can see how you interpreted it that way, but not my intent.

    Again, I refer to Atkins comments about Kim's athleticism (60 grade speed) and defensive versatility. He would be more likely to play all over the diamond, where the needs are. Whether that is 3B, SS, 2B, or an OF position. It depends on what else happens this offseason, injuries, etc. I can only think of middle IF having made a successful transition to the OF. I cannot offhand think of a single middle IF who was not able.
