  1. What became of mail order bride #2?
  2. All I want for Christmas is a CBA.
  3. I seem to recall LGJ getting pre game or spring training reps at 3B last season? He'd be below average, but not as bad as Fat Vlad, I say.
  4. What about Papelbon's *******ry?
  5. Jim's 2021 HOF ballot: 1. Barry Bonds 2. Roger Clemens 3. Scott Rolen 4. Alex Rodriguez 5. Sammy Sosa 6. Bobby Abreu 7. Andruw Jones 8. Curt Schilling 9. Todd Helton 10. Manny Ramirez
  6. Except the HOF mentions consideration of other criteria. Who would you put first on your ballot, Alex Rodriguez (113.7 WAR) or Cal Ripken Jr. (92.5 WAR)? Me, I check off Ripken before A-Rod, easy.
  7. Use trade options for pitching.

It's the end of the world as we know it.
  9. Voting is not supposed to be based solely on the player's record though. From the HOF website: 5. Voting: Voting shall be based upon the player's record, playing ability, integrity, sportsmanship, character, and contributions to the team(s) on which the player played. While the player's record and ability can be reasonably objectively assessed, the rest of it is rather subjective and there is no suggestion as to how these are to be weighted. Maybe some voters weigh everything equally, so they vote for a player with worse stats over a player with better. Maybe the writer voted for the well liked Big Papi over the less liked Clemens and Bonds for this reason. Who the f*** knows. It's rather stupid. The player's record should be weighted like 75%, minimum. Interesting that both player's record and playing ability, which might seem redundant, are mentioned.
  10. I'm old enough to remember when games were just under 2 1/2 hours in length. Jays games started at 7:30, ended at 10 am. The timing was great. Nothing was better than watching Stieb and Morris battle for 7 or 8 innings before watching the Jays bullpen blow it. Now the games just f***ing drag on.
  11. There's the eye test (did Jones do backflips?) and then there's the general antipathy and suspicion of saber stats by some voters, particularly the defensive stats. It's the Hall of Fame, not the Hall of the Best. Gonna be tough for Jones to get in, IMO.
  12. Rolen yes, Jones a bubble boy, depending on who else is on the ballot.
  13. No one is wrong in this, I'm just making a guess that Jones will just miss the bar. The decline, the domestic violence conviction, voters weighing offense over defense. I think Rolen eventually gets in.
  14. The Ozzie exception (probably best ever defensive shortstop) does not.
  15. I think the Jays should start trying to sign him after the lockout, and keep trying for the duration he is under control. It's only going to get harder and more expensive to extend him, the longer it takes. They have probably already had preliminary discussions, anyway.
  16. Hall of Very Good... most of his value on the defensive side, I don't see the voters giving enough weight to that
  17. You said "give him the most money when its time". No one knows what other teams would offer unless Vlad went to FA. And no, I am not thinking too black and white. Whatever gives you that idea?
  18. You are suggesting let Vlad go to free agency, don't do any negotiations until then?
  19. Vlad Sr was hobbled by bad knees - can blame Olympic Stadium? Vlad Jr has had knee issues already, so maybe add genes as a contributor to the above. Jr is soon to be 23, an extension up to 12 yrs is a reasonable risk. If he goes the way of Fielder, there's insurance for that.
  20. He needs to take a 2nd catcher in the draft
  21. Fantasy Melendez might be > Ruiz
  22. Can't argue with your approach then. Carlson vs. Adell is relatively close. I'd rather keep McCullers and Patino over Rodon, for the simple reason there must be an issue for the Chisox not to have tendered him. You should be able to keep your 3rd pick in a trade for Witt Jr, and Ruiz might still be there when the pick come up. My two cents.
  23. You must have a hell of a team, who are you protecting over these guys
  24. The longer they wait, the less likely he signs an extension, and assuming continued elite performance which is very likely given his skills, the more expensive he will get. It's a calculus both sides need to make, but no way Vlad signs for 10/250. He's north of 10/300 at this point. It may well be that after the CBA matter is resolved, and the terms are known, the Jays will make a push to extend him and Bo long term.
  25. That would increase, not decrease service time manipulation. I'm not keen on a universal age 29.5 FA age. Rather than use an arbitrary number, the better approach would be to reduce the incentive for service time manipulation. This can be done by reducing the delta between arbitration awards and a player's market value.
