It was a bad trade since the beginning. Most here wish they would've gotten a younger pitcher, or position player, in return.
I do think there's some hidden value in the stability Dickey, as well as Buehrle, have brought to the Blue Jays' starting rotation. I also think the Blue Jays value the interest and hype the Dickey and Marlins trades brought them. Absent those moves, they risked striking out in FA and going into 2013 expecting to lose between 90-100 games. Not saying this is a good reason to overpay, but this franchise just doesn't dig being in such a position.
Very few of the players traded would've helped the team either lose 90-100 games the last 2 seasons, or avoid losing that many games, so they figured they'd spend some of their assets on improving the team ASAP rather than take a step or 2 back and wait for the farm to bear fruits.
I certainly hope Syndergaard and D'Arnaud continue to do well for the Mets.
