  1. AA has tunnel-vision syndrome plus his job is on the line and I don't think the Cubs will accept any package from the Jays that doesn't include Sanchez or Stroman as the centre piece.
  2. Probably, but I don't think he's that far off Nicolino's value. Nicolino's been younger vs levels for sure, but having made it to AAA last year could increase Nolin's value in the eyes of some teams. Cubs would want Sanchez and/or Stroman as centre pieces for sure.
  3. If the Jays are targetting Samardzija, you can be sure AA will overpay for him, if you go by the last 18 months. If he gave up the package he did for Happ, if he gave up Aviles and Gomes for Rogers (after having having only given up Thames to get another RP in Delabar), you can be sure Sanchez and/or Stroman would have to be the centre pieces of any deal for Samardzija.
  4. And if the organization had kept its top prospect, who happened to be a catcher, they would have even more money to spend on other areas of need.
  5. Very little of what AA has done over the last 16-18 months has any logic attached to it so you're not alone.
  6. This is my take as well. If it doesn't work out, start shopping Bautista, EE, Reyes, Rasmus and others at the deadline to rebuild. If they're gonna do anything, I'd rather they just spend $ rather than $ and prospects. Anyway...
  7. I think most on this board would agree with this, the problem is that all signs point to AA and Beeston continuing in the direction they took last off season. I, like several others on this forum, was not FOR the trades that were made last off season and would've been fine with focusing on signing FA to plug the holes the team had and if they struck out, would've been happy with waiting for the farm to bear fruits. AA and company will continue with the "all in" strategy even though we wish they'd admit defeat. I certainly hope they spend money instead of spending money and prospects to plug the holes. Unfortunately, AA has shown that he'd rather overspend in both $ and prospects than just in $ to plug holes, as dumb as that sounds, that's the man in charge of the team.
  8. I think "letting 'her ride for 2013" is what AA and co should've done last off season and the team had a farm system that was a lot closer to "great" than it does now. Had they let 'er ride for 2013, the franchise would be in very good shape right now. Since they did the opposite, they're committed to going for it so you can expect 2 or 3 of Sanchez/Stroman/Hutchison/Nolin to be dealt this off season.
  9. You should've sent this post to AA LAST OFF SEASON, too late now.
  10. I think the franchise as a whole has not shown the willingness to commit to a thorough build-through-the-farm and youth philosophy for a long time so I think even if the GM had such a vision, he would run into problems. I'm not trying to absolve AA of the blame here, I just think the problems start at the very top. I really don't think the franchise is intent on building a model baseball franchise as much as they are in trying to create a buzz and/or hype even though, a well-run baseball operations dept would generate even more interest, ratings and ticket sales in the long run than taking risky shortcuts to achieve short term interest.
  11. Maybe Double A is where AA should be general-mismanaging.
  12. Let's hope and pray, a lot, that AA has realized that he's been totally bent over in trades starting with the Happ trade.
  13. At least AA got his guys, meaning guys he's liked for a while like Happ, Rogers, Reyes and let's not forget Bonifacio, the guy we wish Loria had refused to trade.
  14. I guess the off season is no longer slow!
  15. So does this mean Detroit will pay Kinsler 23M per year over the next 4? It's certainly better than paying 24M per year for the next 7 years.
  16. That's a lot of money then you add the cheap option they have at 2b in Profar and it doesn't look as bad as for Texas for the next 2-3 years anyway, after that...
  17. Rangers are reportedly getting some $ from the Tigers plus they've been trying to rid Kinsler's contract themselves and they have a cheap replacement in Profar. We'll see how much they're getting from the Tigers.
  18. I guess the off season is no longer slow...wow! Like others have said, have to wait and see how much $ is going to Texas, but having the cheap option at 2B in Profar also helps to pay for Fielder's huge salary. Do the Tigers now go out and sign a power hitter? Adam Lind for Porcello anyone? Gotta love the off season...except for when AA is getting bent over in trades of course.
  19. Look, your proposed trades won't take place this off season, but I can definitely see the Blue Jays admitting defeat by next July and into next off season.
  20. Alright, fair enough haha. Let's hope AA goes back to his pre-Happ trade days and makes a few shrewd moves.
  21. Now, as much as I have complained today about AA's last 18 months, if he signed Tanaka, I wouldn't be upset. I would certainly prefer signing Tanaka to trading Sanchez and Stroman for the Cubs' pitcher or giving some of the FA pitchers out there the kinds of deals that it will take to get them to sign.
  22. Trying to be funny man??? You said I wasn't giving AA credit for building up a top farm system, so I replied, don't see the issue here. Anyway...
  23. No, I don't. But given how he misspent a top 5-10 farm and 50M payroll increase last year, I wouldn't expect a half-smart person to give this guy more than 145-150M for 2014
  24. Where's all this money gonna come from? AA has blown whatever payroll flexibility the team had. I'd fire him if I were Rogers, right after Beeston.
  25. I have no problem with giving him credit for the farm system. In fact, if he hadn't made the moves he has made over the last 18 months, starting with the Happ trade, I would be fine with him. He wouldn't be a top 5 GM, but he wouldn't be in the dumbest GM conversation. He has blown the top 10 or 5 system you mention while also doubling his team's payroll in the process.
