  1. I just don't get this guy either. He did the same thing with Dickey in 3 or 4 games now. If you're gonna give your pitcher such a short leash in an inning, why not just start the inning with a reliever instead of bringing him in with a man or 2 on base? He did the same thing with McGowan in KC. He let McGowan start the 7th against Gordon and after Gordon got on, he pulled McGowan. This team should really be up there with the Yankees and Orioles atop the division, but the f***ing bullpen and manager have done them in.
  2. I think this plays into their decision. They're hoping Happ can get on a lucky streak and raise his value, which can only go up. We all wish they held true to their ST claims that they'd bring the best team north, but clearly, that has not happened. Let's hope that new arm angle fools hitters for a lucky few starts.
  3. I really didn't think Marte had a shot there, that ball was down the line. On the other hand, I don't have a view of where Marte was positioned on that pitch. Sometimes you have to give the other team credit. Gose threw out a runner the other day. On the other hand, there were no outs so the coach should have to explain that.
  4. If they're lucky, Happ will have a couple of good starts and hopefully some team will trade for him and his salary. I don't expect much in return, just to clear the roster spot for Stroman in June.
  5. I don't fault JPR for letting go of Rios, I blame the way the organization is run. Same applies to AA on Yunel Escobar. These are public-relations decisions above the GM. Blame whomever the president was in 2009 for Rios. Also, AA wasn't the GM in 2009 when Jenkins and Paxton were drafted. The Jays ended up getting Stroman for Beede, not too shabby. Yes, fire the guy, but a fairer and more accurate case can be made. Nice try I guess.
  6. So if they do decide to call up Stroman, who gets DFA'd to make room on the 40-man roster? This is why I was thinking Nolin might get the starts. On the other hand, they could just scrap their ninja 6-man rotation.
  7. He could've been recalled because of an injury. Remember, Jenkins was optioned a couple of days ago so he was recalled because of the injury to Morrow. I think they chose Jenkins because Wagner pitched last night.
  8. We'll see what Gibbons does, but I hope he isn't serious about committing to anyone as closer. He should manage according to the situation.
  9. I think they'll replace Jenkins with Wagner. They really need another guy they can use in high leverage situations. So now both Happ and McGowan will be in the rotation unless they call up either Stroman or Nolin. I mention Nolin because he's already on the 40-man roster while Stroman isn't.
  10. Could be a move to try to keep him fresh.
  11. I get what you're saying, but remember, Santana only lowered his demands to a 1-year deal a few days before he signed with the Braves. I do agree AA got too cute and ended up with only Santana as an option. He could've gone after Capuano for example.
  12. Are you aware that you're confused about the situation? The Blue Jays had a 2-run lead going into the 9th, here's how things transpired: Neil Walker singled to lead off the inning. Andrew McCutchen struck out swinging. Pedro Alvarez homered to CF to tie the game. Ike Davis flied out to CF. Starling Marte homered to CF to win the game.
  13. The idea of going start to start with McGowan is as wrong as sending him out in the 7th against Gordon on Tuesday with the intention of pulling him if Gordon got on. If one guy getting on with a 3-run leads you to decide he's done, then he shouldn't have started the inning in the first place. Same with the start to start approach. Anyway...
  14. Because that would've put 2 on for Alvarez and he would've hit a walk off, 3-run shot instead of a 2-run shot. On the other hand, it would've saved him 5 pitches.
  15. So when should Norris be promoted to AA? I would think in June, unless he starts getting roughed up. Let him pitch in AA in June, July and August. There's a chance he could start 2015 in AAA although they could send him back to AA to start the year depending how he does.
  16. If they're at the payroll max, where did AA get the $14M to offer Santana and why couldn't he trade Happ, Santos and/or Janssen to clear payroll like the O's did with Jim Johnson? The team could be improved without adding a ton of salary, AA's just doesn't use the FA market.
  17. There seems to be a clear disagreement between Gibbons and AA/Walker on McGowan going back to ST, here's a story by Mike Rutsey of the Toronto Sun: http://www.torontosun.com/2014/03/20/dustin-mcgowan-slotted-into-blue-jays-bullpen
  18. There was a vision for the future until there wasn't, for whatever reason. The Broken 3-Year Window Fallacy is being proven once again.
  19. It is what it is. A new GM could come in and see things clearly. Even if the organization doesn't want to give up on the season, a new GM could make a couple of moves to improve the team without mortgaging much of the future.
  20. The O's traded their 2013 closer and are using last year's set-up guy to close this year. I don't know how much Jim Johnson is making, but whatever the O's saved on him was probably very helpful in signing Jimenez and Cruz.
  21. LOL. Nice imagination. How much added salary would that be? $45M? No way the Mariners would take on that much salary.
