Doesn't really apply, IMO, because he wasn't a guy drafted by the Blue Jays like Gomes. I don't really hold Chavez against the Jays. If I'm not mistaken, he's been in several organizations. Plus, it's not like the A's picked him up and put him in their rotation, he's in their rotation because of injuries and kudos to him for taking advantage of the opportunity.
Gomes said that Cleveland called him after they acquired him and flat out told him they viewed him as a catcher. This tells you the Jays had no clue what they had in him.
Anyway, s*** happens, it's not the end of the world.
