  1. f*** yes. The first competent present in... 15 years? I don't even know who had the job before Godfrey.
  2. Still looking to make some deals guys. I'll be around until about midnight.
  3. They've developed pretty much their entire team. Kluber, Carrasco, and Bauer were acquired as minor leaguers and fixed in Cleveland. Salazar, Allen, Kipnis, Lindor, Chisenhall, and Perez were drafted/signed as international free agents, and Brantley and Santana were acquired as a prospect. They're a very good org.
  4. Yeah, you have to survive by constantly trading mid-prime stars off for cheap talent, and occasionally you're going to miss. When you do it's tough to recover from.
  5. Sustained success is not possible with a payroll consistently bottom-5 in the league.
  6. Everyone is different though. Before, everyone would just watch the local team because they were on TV. Now with MLB.TV, you can watch any game you want. I love logging in and just putting on whatever game catches my interest at the time based on starting pitchers, standings, or whatever. I remember when I was a kid I thought it was weird that someone could be a hockey or baseball fan, but not have a favourite team, but I get it now. People don't have to follow the league through the lens of a single team.
  7. Well... yeah. I never want to see him be one of those guys who hangs on as a shell of his former self.
  8. That sucks. I've been hoping all year that he doesn't retire, and this probably doesn't make him want to stick around.
  9. That's what I'm saying though. We've been asking for a couple days to push the deadline back. I think you should just make the call at this point. You don't have to set a new date, but letting people know that it won't be until the second week of September shouldn't be an issue.
  10. Just make the call. He's had a few days to comment and hasn't done it.
  11. - Juan Uribe still available for super cheap if you're a contender with 3B issues. - 1st round pick gets Romo - Might be closing in on dealing Turner and Ethier. If you're interested, get in contact.
  12. You care far too much about how I spend my time. This would be like you saying you prefer fried pickles to nachos because you don't care much for cheese and me writing a paragraph about how that's nonsense because cheese is awesome.
  13. So Donaldson should have this thing all wrapped up. What a stud.
  14. Sue I do. Just not as much as I enjoy watching, say, the Pirates, or the Cardinals, or the Royals. I mean, that's allowed, right? It's OK if like 25% of my baseball watching time is spent on the Jays?
  15. Ryan Goins is not and never will be a league-average hitter. Devon Travis is clearly the better player.
  16. You seem confused. I wasn't making an argument. I was stating how I feel about the team. I probably shouldn't have done that, but it seems that it wasn't possible for me to comment positively on the Shapiro addition without a bunch of trolling directed at me. Anyway, my feelings (subjective) about the 2015 Blue Jays is that I recognize that they are good (or very good, or the supremely talented gods of the baseball universe, or whatever) but that there are teams that enjoy watching more because I don't love how this one was assembled. You might not understand why I feel that way, but you don't have to. It would be nice if I could discuss the hiring of a new team president without being jumped on because I don't enjoy watching the 2015 Blue Jays quite as much as you think I should enjoy watching them.
  17. Seriously? You're picking a fight because I said they're "good" and not "very good"? Don't make me have you banned again brah.
  18. Dayton Moore and Brian Sabean too. Both were laughingstocks on a Huntington level until recently.
  19. Why are you arguing with me about my subjective feelings about a baseball team? They're going to make the playoffs, but for various reasons I enjoy watching other teams more. The thread is about Mark Shapiro's hiring, which I think is a fantastic move.
  20. I just posted about how adding Shapiro is a homerun move that could usher in a 10-15 year period of sustained success. It doesn't really get less wet blanket than that.
  21. They're good, but they're not that likable to me. It's a team of expensive hired guns with no identity or character.
  22. This is such a huge hire. The team has spent 15 years under Godfrey and Beeston, and will now not only have a baseball guy in charge, but a very open-minded and forward thinking one. With him directing the ship, and a top-10 payroll at his disposal, the next 10-15 years could be an awesome stretch for the org. This is probably the most important position in the franchise, and Rogers hit it out of the park. This could, top-to-bottom, become an elite organization.
  23. The surgically repaired hip and the fact that he's almost 31 might have something to do with it.
