  1. What are you talking about?
  2. The race part is the only part I consider bait. Please feel free to discuss the issue to your heart's content without trying to derail the thread with an argument about racial grievances.
  3. It's not. connorp knows its not. He knows that there's not going to be an appetite to see Ohtani ostracized from baseball over the situation as it currently appears, and he knows that the situation has nothing to do with race. His existence on this forum at this point is stopping in to bait people into stupid arguments that may or may not having anything to do with baseball.
  4. I understand the situation, I just think it’s stupid trolling to post about how mlb or the media would handle this any differently if it was like Mike Trout or Bryce Harper involved, for racial reasons.
  5. Craziest think about the article is that Mizuhara's salary was only 85K. I've seen people guessing that he was making as much as much as 500k a year. Leveraging your employer's wealth to run up a 4.5M gambling debt to the Yakuza or whatever on a middle class income is some next level degeneracy.
  6. how did Yariel Rodriguez look yesterday?
  7. Ohtani and his friend both seem to be f***ing idiots. But this story is going to blow over quickly.
  8. This is a really stupid post. Media won't push "accountability" narative because no fans are going to care about Ohtani sending money to a bookie to cover his friend's gambling debts. Especially not when MLB pushes gambling at every turn.
  9. Ceddanne Rafaela the latest rookie to be named to an opening day roster. Incentivizing teams to carry top prospects from opening day is one of the best things MLB has ever done.
  10. I'm now firmly in the camp of people who don't care about deferrals. Player and team agree to a contract that will pay him 12.5M between now and 2038. The NPV of the deal is calculated in the same way for all 30 teams, and will be applied to the luxury tax number for this year. Every team in the league was free to offer him more money up front, and presumably none wanted to.
  11. Serven projects for a wRC+ of 54. He's 29. No way he should be carried on the 40-man once Jansen is back.
  12. Good point
  13. I think you're right that if they need to open up a spot for Votto or Vogelbach very soon it would be a reliever (Little or Pop). If Lukes makes the team and they don't need to add someone until Votto is ready or Jansen is activated, maybe it's Serven or Mitch White plays himself out of a 26-man spot.
  14. Isn't he looking at potentially years of jail time, and a completely tarnished reputation? I'm not sure there's a sum of money that would convince me to spend years in prison.
  15. Neither version of the story really checks out. 1) A bookie allowed an interpreter to rack up a 4.5M debt for some reason and then Ohtani was good enough to pay it off, but realized that was illegal and then lied about it. 2) The interpreter had access to 4.5M of Ohtani's cash, stole it, gambled on it, and Ohtani only learned about this after laughing it up with his pal after yesterday's game.
  16. Betts is a machine
  17. My god Muncy
  18. Game 2 of the season and I'm fed up with the Eugene Levy EQ Bank commercial
  19. Dodgers lineup might be so good that you sit almost anyone but, like, Strider against them. I almost sat Darvish yesterday.
  20. That Betts double is a HR in 17 MLB parks and wasn't really that close to getting out
  21. Muncy is a disaster at 3B
  22. First MLB hit for Merrill
  23. Was thinking that too
  24. Damn, Yamamoto out
  25. They're on everything. Everything in play except the Campusano double has been at 96+.
