    NHL Thread

Hasek is the only goalie I've ever seen that felt next to impossible to beat. I don't know what fancy stats say, but my perception is that he's the most dominant player I've seen in 30+ years watching hockey. I have no idea how that compares to Dryden/Brodeur/Roy.
  2. I think Atkins could possibly be replaced if the team misses the playoffs and guys like Turner and IKF don't pan out. But I don't think this team is anywhere close to doing a full tear-down. I don't think they believe in it philosophically now that there are 6 playoff teams per league and they can spend to the luxury tax. I'm expecting them to go big-game hunting this offseason if it looks like Bo and Vlad aren't staying.
  3. So were all of the teams that were apparently interested in Montgomery just hoping to get him for 1/12 or something?
  4. That should be a lifetime ban
  5. The complete lack of interest in him makes a lot more sense now
  6. Just throw yourself into your teammate's knees while you're both running full speed. Everything will be fine. I'm not sure there's an outfielder in the majors right now who looks more lost defensively than Walker.
  7. Seems he's both stupid and a liar. Neither is really surprising.
  8. So I guess the options for Vogelbach were: - don’t sign the advanced consent form, don’t make the team, play in AAA for minor league money - sign the form, play in the majors to start the season, earn money at at a 2M rate, and hope to play well enough to either stay with the jays or get another team interested in rostering him The first option clearly makes the most sense for him I think
  9. It really would be hilarious if he was throwing games or something, for like three different reasons
  10. Are bets taken by illegal bookies typically made available to the public? Edit: Just read through the thread. When he says "the same bookie" in his 3rd tweet he means the same bookie who took the bets described in his first couple tweets. I don't think he's perusing the data of the LA mob-associated bookie Ohtani made payments to report on the bets they took.
  11. Kind of need context around how rare bets that big are. And the massive parlay lost because he struck out 7 and the K was under 6.5. Pretty sure he's also lying about the numbers. For example, the bet on the +2500 parlay would yield 10M (400k bet), not a 10M bet at +2500 that would yield 250M. Also, what does he mean by Ohtani's friend's bookie?
  12. Jared Jones Gavin Stone Ceddanne Rafaela Luis Matos Richie Palacios come to mind as non-blue chip guys who seemed to get a bit of helium this spring
  13. The Rockies have the following extensions on the books: - Kyle Freeland 5/64 - Charlie Blackmon 1/13 - Ryan McMahon 6/70 - Antonio Senzatela 5/50.5 - Daniel Bard 2/19 - Ezequiel Tovar 7/84 - Elias Diaz 3/14.5 They've also refused to trade guys like Cron, and Story in recent years, letting them walk for nothing via free agency. They get players, then just keep them forever regardless of whether or not they're actually any good.
  14. I'll never understand the Rockies' tendency to keep all of the players who keep leading them to 65-win seasons.
  15. I think so too, unless The_DH is on to something and Volgelbach gave up the guarantee.
  16. Thought it would be Lukes over Vogelbach with the 2M salary triggering. Gonna guess Little or Pop get removed from the 40-man.
  17. I didn't call it a non-story, I said it will blow over quickly. You're free to disagree with me, and I don't consider it trolling. I'm just telling you not to think out loud here about how he might get off easy because he's not white. That's bait, and will (already has) derail the thread. We don't even know what he did or what the repercussions are, so there's no reason whatsoever to guess about the role race will play.
  18. What are you talking about?
  19. The race part is the only part I consider bait. Please feel free to discuss the issue to your heart's content without trying to derail the thread with an argument about racial grievances.
  20. It's not. connorp knows its not. He knows that there's not going to be an appetite to see Ohtani ostracized from baseball over the situation as it currently appears, and he knows that the situation has nothing to do with race. His existence on this forum at this point is stopping in to bait people into stupid arguments that may or may not having anything to do with baseball.
  21. I understand the situation, I just think it’s stupid trolling to post about how mlb or the media would handle this any differently if it was like Mike Trout or Bryce Harper involved, for racial reasons.
  22. Craziest think about the article is that Mizuhara's salary was only 85K. I've seen people guessing that he was making as much as much as 500k a year. Leveraging your employer's wealth to run up a 4.5M gambling debt to the Yakuza or whatever on a middle class income is some next level degeneracy.
  23. how did Yariel Rodriguez look yesterday?
  24. Ohtani and his friend both seem to be f***ing idiots. But this story is going to blow over quickly.
  25. This is a really stupid post. Media won't push "accountability" narative because no fans are going to care about Ohtani sending money to a bookie to cover his friend's gambling debts. Especially not when MLB pushes gambling at every turn.
