I think this specific USA team brought it on themselves. Paul Skenes set the tone before game 1 with "We're America, we've got to assert our dominance over everybody else. That's what we do" and it was basically constant douchebaggery from there. Combine that with having the most talented roster in the tournament and people were going to root against them, for obvious reasons. Its like if the Yankees at their peak also acted like the world's biggest *******s.

Well, it was pro Canada until Canada got eliminated. Then became pro anything but USA. It's fine. There always has to be a villain.

Meh, it's a thread on a Blue Jays forum about the WBC - it was always going to be pro-Canada. And its also a reflection of the way team USA carried themselves. It will die within a couple of days.

The location benefit them, for sure. Aside from location, the scheduling was kind of bush league. Some teams got to circle back to their ace for the last game of pool play (like Cuba against us) because they had 4 days off after their first game. We didn't get that luxury and had to play Cuba using our 4th starter against their ace, And then USA had a game off between their semi-final and final, but Venezuela didn't. So USA's relivers were rested while Venezuela's guys had to go back to back earlier than they would typically.

Not sure it ended up mattering because they couldn't couldn't hit Edouardo Rodriguez in the final, but if the best pitcher on the planet is willing to make one start for you, how do you not do everything in your power to line him up for the final, instead of a pool play game against Great Britain?

It's actually remarkable how humiliating this tournament actually was for USA: - Cal Raleigh snubbing Arozarena's handshake, then taking an interview with a "Front Towards The Enemy" shirt, then getting 0 hits in the tournament - Losing to team Italy - Literally nobody on the team or management knowing that they hadn't clinched a playoff round spot before the Italy game - Mark DeRosa's entire existence - The warrior larping, including pre-game speeches from a navy seal, while every other team was just having a blast listening to music and having a great time - Paul Skenes actually saying out loud that this tournament is a substitute for the air force service he never did - having to squeak by Canada by scoring the 2 winning runs off a guy who retired in 2019 - Only scoring two runs in a game starting by Luis Severino in 2026 - Only scoring two runs in a game started by Eduardo Rodriguez in 2026 Like, this might be the most cringe baseball team ever assembled.
