It's also a completely moot point, because MLB teams don't operate that way. They were coming off seasons of 91 and 92 wins in 2021 and 2022. It would basically be unprecedented to jump into a rebuild at that point. The biggest problem with the team this year, by far, is that Vlad and Bo are both at 0.0 WAR almost a full month into the season. That's absolutely crippling.

If the rest of this season plays out like 2023 and April 2024 have, it's almost impossible to imagine Vlad back next year. Like, Ross would actually have to be a computer to watch another 5 months of this and then decide that the best path forward is to spend 25M on another season of it. A poorly-programmed computer.

April 25th and Varsho is at 1.4 fWAR. ROS projections now have him finishing with 4+ WAR. Maybe KK starts seeing more of the bench and Varsho can get into the 5-6 range. What a player. -

wRC+ of guys in our best lineup so far this season: RF - Springer - 105 1B - Vlad - 105 SS - Bichette - 85 DH - Turner - 168 CF - Varsho - 164 C - Jansen - 113 LF - Schneider - 110 3B - IKF - 113 2B - Biggio - 113 Clement - 115 The offense has a chance to be good. Basically everyone is meeting/exceeding expectations except the team's two best players. The team is probably like 15-10 right now instead of 13-12 if Bo and Vlad are carrying their weight. These two rank 10th and 11th among the team's hitters in fWAR. They're exclusively responsible for the offense being bad so far. -
It’s frustrating because the complimentary pieces have mostly been fine: Varsho has been a monter Turner has been great Schneider, Clement, IKF doing surprisingly well Springer looks about average Then Vlad and Bo have just taken a big dump all over everything

It's been brutal. They've also both had some bad baserunning mistakes and loud defensive issues.
