    Yeah, he's subject to the international bonus restrictions because of his age. It actually makes no sense whatsoever for him to come over now.

    If Otani does post this offseason, 30 teams will be in play because the max commitment he can receive under the new CBA is a signing bonus of less than $10M. Hard to see him choosing Toronto when literally 30 teams will be offering him almost identical compensation.

    Are the Padres the worst-run team in baseball now? Holding Brad Hand makes no sense. His value should have been higher now than it will ever be, and he's currently pitching at peak level. IMO not selling the most volatile category of asset in the game is pretty indefensible. They seem to get everything wrong.

    I think Stroman is just a significantly better asset. His performance has been steadier, he's under control for a year longer, and he has no history of arm troubles. Gray had his derailed by arm issues, and lost a month this year to a lat strain.This feels like Oakland getting what they can while he's healthy.

    Bump. What a success. I love little moves like this: a 1-year $3M contract and the team gets 35 great innings (worth about a win probably), and then a couple of lottery tickets for the farm.

    Paul Swydan is very dumn: Paul Swydan 2:14 Probably that's all they could get. But also Toronto's LF is bad, and Aoki is under contract for next year. In other words, don't expect Toronto to spend a ton of money this winter. Not like they're in one of baseball's biggest markets or anything.
