I don't think I have a read on his bat. He could be anything. The level he has to hit to be 20-team relevant is very high though. Yoenis Cespedes went 292/352/540 with 17 homers (131 wRC+) in 321 PA and wasn't a top-500 player in out format.
Yeah if Ohtani is promoted pre-cut, he'll count as one asset for the purposes of the cut, but come the waiver draft, will take up two yahoo spots. If he's left on the farm, it's a non-issue.
Sooo... how does everyone want to handle the two Ohtanis? He currently occupies one MiLB spot. At the cut, is he broken into two Ohtanis, each of whom must be protected? Can one Ohtani be promoted and the other left on the farm?
I don't think it would make sense for the team to do that. They're better off with starting a Cron or Valbuena then getting 2-3 ABs from Ohtani and then burning through PHs.
