Bichette and Brinson were similarly valued by prospect lists before the season, but it might be that Miami's internal valuations had Brinson significantly higher than Bichette. If Toronto could have had Yelich for, like, Bichette, Alford, SRF, and some guy I'm sure they would have done it.

The most obvious opportunities for risk have been extensions for stars approaching free agency (Donaldson, Price, Encarnacion, Bautista) or long-term extensions for younger established players (Travis, Sanchez, Stroman).

I’ll take the bet right now. I get the over on 69.5 projected wins by midnight on the first day of the regular season, using FG projected standings.

And the team isn’t tire fire bad. They’ll probably project at around 0.500 come opening day. Having a guy with MVP caliber skills around on a 1-year deal is never a bad thing. Best case scanario, he helps them to a WC game. Likely scenario, he returns some assets at the deadline. Worst case scenario, he provides an expensive WAR in a lost year.

It’s hard to see him not getting a QO if he’s still here on Saturday. It’s a small investment that they won’t catch much heat for if he sucks, but they’ll look really stupid if they don’t offer him the QO and he has a 5-win season.
