  1. Yup. If you're 27 or older on November 1st, you're a free agent. If not, you're arbitration-eligible.
  2. Most Jays fans think this guy is bad at his job and want him fired.
  3. I'm hoping Shapiro is here long enough for the team to become a contender, so Ross Atkins builds enough clout to take over as president should Shapiro decide to leave.
  4. Why eat like $17m instead of just keeping him with the org for $20m? He can pass knowledge on to Jansen next year, catch the odd game, and then transition to another role with the org after the season.
  5. My god I love Mark Shapiro
  6. I think there's a big difference in public support for delaying service time to save a year of control vs. to avoid super 2. I'm cool with them waiting to mid-April to get the extra year, but waiting until June to save a few million a year would be indefensibly cheap in my eyes.
  7. If history repeats itself, JD Martinez will win the MVP if he takes the triple crown.
  8. I wonder how receptive Martin would be to a super utility role that sees him play 5-6 spots on the diamond, but rarely catching unless Jansen or Maile are hurt.
  9. Why doesn’t she just share the details instead of these vague, cryptic messages? She clearly wants the story out there.
  10. He could put up huge numbers in relief as soon as next year. Dude has the stuff and command to start, but can't seem to handle the workload. If the stuff plays up in relief, while also helping him stay healthy, that's a great asset.
  11. No issue with McGuire in AAA. Bigger question is whether they keep Maile and Martin around. Jansen will definitely be on the MLB team.
  12. So Paulino looked good? I'm pretty excited about him for next season.
  13. Every time someone posts a quote from Gibby it sounds like he's not really interested in coming back. I really hope that's what's going on, and that he's not being forced out.
  14. https://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/joe-west-austin-davis-and-the-theater-of-the-absurd/ Jump right to the comments for some prime second-hand embarrassment.
  15. It looks like he has more power than Upton, and strikes out less. Maybe less speed and worse defense. But overall, a Justin Upton level of impact seems reasonable.
  16. This makes me sad.
  17. I don't think a trade is necessary if Solarte is bought out. Drury, Travis, and Gurriel all have options. They can make it work, even if Tulo is healthy.
  18. Arb projections aren't out yet, but rough math has the 25-man costing about $100M next year if Solarte is bought out. I believe they started 2018 at around $150. They can slash payroll by $25M and still afford a couple of starting pitchers. And Martin and Morales are off the books after 2019.
  19. I guess Harris would make sense to add to the 40 at the expense of someone like Guerrieri.
  20. If you pitch him he's a DH 3-4 days a week. If you don't pitch him, he's a (likely excellent) right fielder 6-7 days a week. And pitching exacerbates the likelihood of him getting hurt seriously enough that he can't play the outfield. Look how things have gone this year. He's going to finish at 3.5-4 fWAR. He's probably at around 5-6 if he doesn't throw a single pitch this season.
  21. I still don't see why they'd have him pitch again. They could have a 6-win superstar in RF.
  22. Some interesting questions to be answered: - Solarte should almost certainly be bought out. He's terrible, and with Vlad looming and quite a few similar infielders on the roster, there's no reason to invest 4.75M in him. - Pompey, Barnes, and Guerrieri will be out of options and haven't yet established themselves in the majors. Will be interesting to see how that is handled. - Will the team carry 3 catchers? Overall, the pitching staff is a tire fire, but the depth of positional players, while lacking star power after Vlad, is actually pretty impressive on the 40-man. There are a lot of players there who look like major league contributors.

  24. I don’t think most people here believe they had the option of tearing them it down and losing 100 games. And regardless, they would have been crucified by the same casuals. Probably worse so.
  25. Buxton sucks, Jim
