    The balls on this guy. He’s been complete trash all year and been bailed out by his defense. The first time he actually gets the results his pitching warrants, he throws the defense under the bus. They were legit bad last night, but Sanchez has been legit bad since the start of 2017, and is in no position to call anyone out for their play.

    Yeah, the Asros and Rays broadcasts are two of the best in the business. It's on a completely different level than what our fans are exposed to with Buck and Pat.

    The Astros broadcast just brought up a graphic explaining what xFIP is and they are discussing how Gerrit Cole's ERA is a lot higher than his FIP and xFIP and doesn't really reflect how good he's been. We have Buck and Pat.

    A few comments: 1) I've seen a few people point out his numbers in AAA, but I don't think I've seen much optimism beyond that. Do you mind quoting the posts you think are unreasonably optimistic? 2) Literally nobody here cares what people on sportsnet or reddit think. 3) IIRC my opinion on Gurriel over the years as gone something like: 2016 - cool, the Jays signed a highly regarded prospect 2017 - damn, Gurriel isn't hitting very well 2018 - ok, the bat looks like it might be average. if he can defend at an average level he'll be a decent player 2019 - f***, the defense sucks and he might not hit enough to make up for it So yeah, my opinion has evolved over the 2-3 years he's been in the org. Of course it has. He was signed as a huge-variance player out of a situation with literally no information on him as a player.

    Couldn't tell for sure, as I wasn't watching in ultra-hd, but I think we all know that they were salted.

    Yeah. Multiple shots of him digging candy out of a small blue, pink, and yellow plastic container. When he finished the candy he switched to sunflower seeds, so at least he recognized that protein and fat > sugar.

    Yeah, it seems like throwing the slider more should improve him. That barrier is pretty high though. Improvement takes him to like 5-WAR ace.

    I don’t think I’ll ever criticize a FO for opting to sell high on a SP instead of paying them FA money. In the case of Stroman, keeping him means betting significant money on a pitcher, and also passing up what’s looking like a valuable trade return. I think there’s a valid case for moving him, and a valid case for extending him at market value.
