  2. St. Louis basically became a dumpster fire overnight. Imagine realizing a month in that the catcher you just paid 90M can't catch.
  3. TODAY: St. Louis president of baseball operations John Mozeliak specified that Contreras will be a designated hitter rather than an outfielder “unless there’s some sort of emergency,” Katie Woo and Ken Rosenthal of the Athletic report. Mozeliak also shed some more light on the decision to make the position change, saying that “obviously the Cardinals were used to [Molina] behind the plate for close to two decades. The nuances of that position, maybe very subtle, are what a lot of our pitchers were used to. What we were seeing was a lack of confidence. “Normally, you would say, why didn’t you address this in Spring Training? But in Spring Training, it’s so different in terms of what people are trying to work on. Pitchers are going a couple of innings. It doesn’t really count….We just decided to do it head on, put it out there. Do we think we’ve seen Willson catch his last game? No. But this is going to take a little time to get him to where we feel he understands the expectations of what this role is for us.” Like manager Oliver Marmol said yesterday, Mozeliak reiterated that Contreras wasn’t being singled out as a cause of the team’s struggles. “What I don’t want to have happen is a finger-point, this is all Willson’s fault. It’s not. There are many parts of our team right now that are not performing to what we expected,” Mozeliak said.
  4. That contract is going to be a massive sunk cost for NY
  5. Also Rodon apparently has a degenerative back issue and is not sure when he’ll pitch again
  6. Cards getting absolutely blasted again today. Jack Flaherty f***ing sucks.
  7. Also Carrasco and Quintana are both broken. Their plan to build a rotation of a bunch of old f***s has been disastrous.
  8. Verlander's Mets debut isn't going well
  9. A 0.500 team in a market that big worrying about service time for players like Mervis and Morel would be pathetic. These aren't going to be superstars. I guess they might think Mervis is a AAAA type who won't hit MLB pitching or something. I still think it's insane to run with Rios and Hosmer over him when you're a 0.500 team, but I could accept that. As you say, Morel is particularly weird. He demonstrated last year that he's a good MLB player, and is absolutely laying waste to AAA. Honestly, the quotes from their GM just make it seem like he has wrong ideas about how fungible depth pieces like Hosmer, Madrigal, and Rios are.
  10. I think Carter Hawkins might be an idiot. The team has received 85 PA from Hosmer who has a 79 wRC+, has been rostering Nick Madrigal and Edwin Rios all season (both sub-replacement level), and actually used Luis Torrens at DH earlier this year. Christopher Morel put up 1.6 fWAR in MLB last year, and has a 214 wRC+ in AAA this year. He's slugging 0.821. Matt Mervis has a 140 wRC+ in AAA. And they're just continuing to roll with a bunch of no-upside trash on the MLB team. Hosmer, their DH, tried and failed to drop a sac bunt with two runners on in the 9th last night. When asked about it, Hawkins said he didn't want to deplete organizational depth this early in the season. Which should be a fireable offense, given that the organizational depth he's talking about is sub-replacement level and costing the MLB team actual wins. This article is an appropriate takedown: https://pointlessexercise.substack.com/p/carter-really-shouldnt-be-allowed
  11. What made them think their pitching staff was in any way acceptable? Their actual plan was for this to be the rotation: Waino - 111 years old Montgomery - good 3/4 Mikolas - good 3/4 Flaherty - injured and bad last year Matz - injured last year And the only depth propping up this paper thin shitshow was Jake Woodford, Packy Naughton, Dakota Hudson, and Matthew Liberatore. All of whom are basically guaranteed to suck except Liberatore. I have a lot of respect for what the Cardinals do, but that's just embarrassing.
  12. I believe in that table the first three columns are for today's game and the 4th is his season's average.
  13. Yeah, but there hasn't been since we moved to Fantrax. Nothing bad is happening.
  14. Our rules haven't changed since we left Yahoo 4 years ago.
  15. You're the only person here who thinks about Geraldo Perdomo, Jimbo
  16. It's blowing my mind that Chris Sale is in his 7th season in Boston.
  17. I have no idea how/why that rule was omitted from the BORED constitution. But I don’t think it’s a good rule anyway, and it would be annoying to enforce (player could get red flag after the add).
  18. I’ve added multiple DDL red flags over the years, on account of forgetting this rule existed
  19. I don’t think that’s actually prohibited in our league constitution, but I don’t have time this morning to verify in Fantrax. It definitely hasn’t been enforced in the DDL either.
  20. Miller vs. Miller tonight in Oakland is a fun matchup
  21. Gotta pick your spots
  22. I could move Cal Raleigh in my search for SP help
